90 day rules and AFE logbook
I'm trying to understand how it should work, but i can't. Please help with advice, how it is possible to check 90 day rules in this logbook?

AFE logbook
Well i've got an AFE logbook myself and its been ok for me so far, but i've just got the normal blue one, not the professional pilot one. It has logged over 160 hours for me so far with no problem. So I really don't know what your worries are, a logbook is a logbook, only one looks prettier than the other for more money, that how business people make cash and profit.

Yes, I can see a difficulty. The '90-day' rule requires at least 3 takeoffs and landings to have been carried out within the preceding 90 days in order that passengers may be carried. There's no provision made as far as I can tell, unless you use the 'remarks' column, to record the number of t/o & landings, just the date, location and times of each flight - not the same thing at all! So if you choose to do 3 circuits to meet the qualification, the only way you can annotate this is to say so in the remarks, not very scientific, really. The only way to be absolutely sure, is to conduct 3 entirely separate flights within the past 90 days.
Now, we'll start the old debate about whether or not 3 touch-and-go's counts as 3 takeoffs and landings... Cheers, TheOddOne |
I have this logbook, and something I think doesn't help, is that when you click "enlarge image" on that link it actually cuts off the end 2 columns of the logbook. These columns are for you to note take offs and landings both day and night. Once you open the enlarged imagine, expand to full screen and you'll see what I mean. So all someone has to do to see if someone is current to take pax, is look back 90 days as of the current day in the logbook, and see where the owner of the logbook has logged at least "3" total in that column and was PIC.

Fair enough, so if you write the take-offs and landings* in those columns then you can check your 90-day currency at a glance.
But it's a bit cheeky of them to claim it as some kind of special feature. You can write those things in the "Comments" column of any logbook - and that, indeed, is exactly what I do in my Pooleys one. Presumably, if the number of landings isn't the same as the number take-offs you've got more to worry about than just your 90-day currencly. |

I am just coming to the end of my 3rd AFE logbook. Never had a problem with it. Nice clear log and has the data I need. Got the first one free and so I stuck with them!

90 day rule - it's there, honest!
Hi All
The current AFE logbooks ('standard' blue one and the grey 'professional' flavour) DO have specific columns for recording take-offs and landings - day and night. This feature was introduced about JAR-time - which seems like a lifetime ago for some of us... If you follow the website link at the top of the thread and click the 'click to enlarge' column, you'll get a bigger image of the logbook page. If you 'grab' the right-hand vertical side of the picture box you should be able to pull it to the right and you'll see the columns there, before the remarks column. I'm sure there is someone out there clever enough to make that picture open differently - all volunteers please step forward... Happy Landings The AFE night shift |
