RAF Halton Young Aviators

The RAF Halton Aeroplane Club hosted our 2006 Young Aviators evening last Friday. Given the exceptional weather and a huge amount of support from HAC members as well as the Halton Microlight Club, JSAT(G) and the based private onwers, we beat our previous record and managed to fly 104 local children. Particular thanks go to Nigel Marshall and Rob Cooper for organising the event and to the Station Commander, Group Captain John Harrison for allowing us sole use of the airfield for the event and for ensuring optimum press coverage. We also flew 3 local mayors, 2 members of the Disabled Flying Association, BBC TV and Mix 96 reporters.
A truely wonderful evening for all those involved and I have added a few pictures below;

Nice to see Halton put to such use. I've personally given many youngsters (mostly ATC/CCF cadets) their first flights in gliders and microlights there.
Years ago when Roger Dixon was OC Airfield I was flying with the Ridgerunners Microlight Club (no relation to RAF Halton Microlight Club) and he talked me into 'controlling' the Air Squadron Trophy day; 19 aircraft and about 150 movements in about 3 hours!

This is something that could be emulated by many clubs around the country from time to time. I have done a little of this in tha past and the joy on those young faces (and their parents) makes it sooooooooooooooo! worthwhile. Well done to Halton.

It is the four seaters that make the difference, but everybody pulled out all the stops and the support from everyone at Halton was superb and just about the most satisfying event I participate in.
