Anyone trained for an IMC in US ?
Hi,
I'm considering training for an IMC in the US. I've fancied the idea of some flying in America for a while, and maybe I'll stay on for a few days after, for some sight seeing trips(not much sight seeing to be done with foggles on !!). As I fly a PFA type, I won't actually be able to use the IMC when back in the UK, but I think it should improve my flying sufficiently to make it worth while, and I would definately enjoy the challenge. So, anyone trained for an IMC in the US ? Any thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Tango :ok: p.s I am aware of the visa requirements, and I never have (and never will) pay up front ! |

The US doesn't have an IMC rating. Unless you're training at a UK school's US outpost- and they offer training for the UK IMC rating - then it's an IR or nothing.

if you are going to all the effort of getting a visa etc why not do the FAA IR and be done? You will get a UK IMC issued on the back of it and you get a full ICAO IR.

I did this and highly recommend it.
You need to go to a US flight school with a UK registered CFI. Thta way you get the IMC at a much reduced cost, and a vacation to boot. I went to Ormond Beach some years back, and would recommend. But checkout the back pages of Pilot or Flying. Good luck. :ok: |
