Onan the Clumsy

There is nothing wrong with my attitude. In fact I am a very light hearted chap but I do get p**sed off seeing people on here asking reasonable questions and getting made to look fools by the know it alls. I only asked a simple questions about towers and some people attempted to shoot me down.

On another forum (flyer) they are having an interesting discussion about how you can update your GPS with towers and waypoints etc. Nobody on that forum is saying you shouldnt have this data. Does that say something about some of the people that come on this forum. Perhaps I will have to put in for a transfer!!

As for GPS, about the only time a moving map is of any use is if you need to see the boundaries of controlled airspace, or maybe to find out what airport you just flew over. Maps are just glitz designed to sell the unit.
What a load of B******s

There are huge advantages of moving map, one especially is when flying in foreign land when asked to report somewhere and not so good at the pronunciation to see it displayed on the map is of huge benefit, along with many more.

Never mind foreign lands. How many times have I been left sweating when an ATC from another part of this country says "report at XYZ" and I think where the f**k is xyz. To have VRP's on your moving map is awesome.

Yes but dont look at it if you are one of the easily offended anti gps lobby because it has got one of those god forsaken contraptions showing where towers and airfields are.

Personally now that is available I am going to give up all other forms of navigation and rely completely on my GPS. After all why would I need anything else now. I dont even need to take a map with me!

Now I have the towers info I will also be able to do let-downs through cloud to 200ft so long as I dodge round the ones that would get in the way I reckon.

Can anyone confirm for me that this would be legal.

I also presume now that because I have said GPS I will be immune from all airspace and visibility restrictions of the PPL???

Finally presumably I guess this GPS will increase my Useful Load by another 400lbs?

It's a brilliant bit of kit and now allows you to accomplish all of the aforementioned:)

Oh thanks. I feel much better about it now. This thread has proved very useful after all because my original question was could I see towers etc on the 296 and sure enough I can with a little help from some of you who have pointed me to the place where I can download these databases and we have had some fun debate along the way.
