Washing Aircraft
Dear all
I am currently 16, and I have just completed my GCSEs. I hope and expect to do well enough in my exams to move on to A level study in the next academic year. I am extremely enthusiastic about aircraft and would be very grateful to learn whether you would be willing for myself to wash and polish your aircraft for a small payment (you can decide!). it doesn't even have to be money! (maybe a little trip/lesson :D ) All air schools that I have tried (of which I have counted at least 25) have said no to any kind of work. However, I am not one for giving up so am asking any pilot/s who want their aircraft washed or cleaned to give me a PM. I have a long-held interest in aviation, and it is my ambition to achieve my PPL (A) and eventually become an airline pilot. I am extremely determined to do this. I am able, willing and enthusiastic and would be willing to turn my hand to virtually any job which you want me to do to your aircraft. Be it wash, polish hoover...you decide! I am most grateful to you for your consideration of my request. If unfortunately you do not have anything do you know anyone else/ pilots nearby who might have something? (I live in the Berkshire area, but would be willing to go further afield, such as Blackbushe, Booker etc) Yours faithfully Quango |
Quango
Your determination impresses me. Where are you from (you mentioned Berkshire in your post). I'll happily take you for a trip out somewhere if you want (as long as you're not over 14 stone?) J P.S You must be the only 16 year old who can punctuate and spell well in Berks so you are welcome to fly with me! |
Washing Aeroplanes
And if you let me know via PM whereabouts in Berkshire you are located I may have an aeroplane that you can assist me to wash at White Waltham.
|
How easily can you get to Popham? I have a group of fellow syndicate members that I'm failing dismally to join me in our turn to wash the b****y aeroplane, and it might be that they'd much prefer to volunteer to take you flying instead!
I hope that you realise just how slow and irritating a job washing aeroplanes is! A 30ft wing gets an amazing amount of dead flies on it! G |
Quango I admire your enthusiasm, but I'm not sure that all this washing of aeroplanes is a good thing. First time we washed ours after several years of grubbyness it got eaten by Cows! :(
Still mustn't grumble, best of luck hope you get a load of trade and lots of flights!:ok: |
Quango,
I'd suggest you come up to Sleap to help us wash ours, and you can if you like, but Shropshire is rather a long way from Berkshire. :( Washing aeroplanes is bloody hard work; last time we did it I'd swear the wings expanded as we worked. All help most welcome next time, as far as I'm concerned. Good luck. It's nice to see someone who doesn't expect everything to be handed to them on a plate. :ok: Come on, southern based prooners, help Quango out; he/she deserves it. :ok: |
When I did a spot of aeroplane washing last Summer I found that it helped me to understand the aircraft better from an external point of view; all those hours running a long-handled broom over a Cessna's wing on a little ladder is surprisingly effective at increasing your awareness to what you can and can't do to a wing with regards to stress in the air also. May get my hands dirty again this year as well if I can convince the folks to drive me the extra few miles. :)
Cheers and best of luck, Jack. |

Hi all
Thanks for all the great replies! I have tried everywhere, I ithk I have counted about 25 air clubs! WLAC/White Waltham, BAFC, Blackbushe, Redair, WAC, Booker, CABAIR, even Oxford! But no luck! This is why I want to wash planes, as the clubs are not giveing me anything. I even offered to do work fo free! Thanks Q |
Flying club BBQ this evening, I'll have words!
This level of enthusiasm deserves something back. G |
If you can PM me some details - name, contact etc, I'll put up a notice for you at North Weald. I'm too new at Duxford to try pulling any strings there, unfortunately!

Anybody in Exeter in need of similar services? Looking for any kind of work involving aeroplanes.
Many thanks, h |
