Is your UK PPL about to expire?

A gentle reminder that UK PPL's issued in 2000 are probably about to expire. They need renewing (for a fee, what a surprise!)

What you mean is "Is your UK-issued JAR-FCL PPL about to require re-issue?" Yes, the JAA con-trick pulled by the CAA means that every 5 years your JAR-FCL PPL must be re-issued (currently the fee is £59). In order for it to be re-issued, you must have a current JAA Class 1 or 2 medical certificate and a current Class or Type Rating.

The absurdity of the CAA trying to assert in their Regulatory Impact Assessment that the JAR-FCL PPL would not involve extra cost is thus truly exposed as the sham I declared it to be at the time. But the DETR refused to budge.....

We're there some 5 year ones issued in 1999 (something due to half the regs coming in then and half on 1/1/00 ?

And how many PPL's won't bother and just give up flying altogether.

How many won't bother
How many won't notice?

£59? I wish the Swedish CAA can learn something there..

In Sweden we pay £72/year, so for a 5 year renewal it's £360 or so, and that's for a PPL. CPL/ATPL are much more expensive..
