Update to rule 5 (low-flying)

Today's NOTAMs include a note on an update to rule 5. From a brief look through the CAA docs it seems the 1000ft, 500ft and glide clear rules stay unchanged.

Can anyone familiar with the changes post a brief summary of the updated points?
Thanks.

Mak

You could try this thread, which also includes a link to the CAA's document.

Here's my summary of the changes, for aeroplanes, with the usual disclaimer that you should read the rule yourself, not rely on my summary, and that the summary may not be complete.

1) An aircraft may not now be flown below such height as would enable it, in the event of a power unit failure, to make an emergency landing without causing danger to persons or property on the surface. (formerly no similar restriction)

2) The minimum height for flying over a congested area is now 1000 ft (formerly 1500 ft)

3) It is now an offence to fly over an open air assembly of 1000+ people at a height of less than 1000 ft or at a glide-clear height if lower. There is no defence of the flight being unrelated to the assembly. (formerly 3300 ft, but this did not apply to flights at a reasonable height, and unrelated to the assembly)
