Hi Fi headset for a rear seat passenger

Hi all my mate has a PA28 booked for a 2 hour stint at the end of this month, I am not a pilot but I fly with him most times he flys, there are only 2 headsets available for this aircraft but we are taking 2 extra bods, just wondering as a temp measure to let the rear seat passengers hear whats going on, is it possible to use home Hi Fi head phones in place of the normal type anybody tried this.

Regards Nick.

The aircraft headset system is designed for headsets with 400 or 600? Ohm impedence. Your Hi-Fi headset will probably have 4 or 8 Ohm. Thus there will be a mismatch between the intercom system and the hi-fi headset so you should not use one.

Will probably work but it won't do the intercom system any good over time!

Far better to borrow an aircraft headset

Not only will the above take effect but normal HiFi headphones wont act as ear defenders and you would still get quite a significant amount of noise.

Cheers,

Maz :ok:

Hi people,

on a similar topic...i've recently moved to a club where the PA28s dont have rear headset sockets...anyone know where to get a reasonably priced, or 2, headset splitter so the people in the back can plug in to the front sockets? I know theres some out there, but where to get?!

Whiskey Kilo:

When I flew BAWK or MUZ I had a wee device I got from an avionics place in sherbourne, search under avionics sherbourne for the website. Very simple and could only do the ears but it was only fifteen notes.

I'll sell you mine for a pint.

BigStu,

Cheers for that mate, as you can gather i'm in residence at a club south of where ol' WK is at the moment, how long for is anyone's guess!

I'll have a look around but may have to take up your offer of a pint ;-) Just would be nice for people in the back to know what's going on...

Cheers.
