JAA PPL renewal in USA
 

I have a question that I haven't been able to get answered through searching.

In order to keep my PPL current I need to complete about 8 hours before end January and get some instruction to get my Certificate of Experience. I was wondering about doing this in the USA as it is more cost effective for me based on the fact I can get to the USA very cheaply through work and I'd like to combine it with a holiday.

I believe that I can travel under the Visa Waiver program but I can't seem to find out if I can do these hours based on my JAA PPL, since I am not actually training for a new licence/rating or whether I need to convert to an FAA license somehow, and if so how do I do this quickly?

Can anyone shed some light on this please? Thanks in advance.

In order to renew your licence you do not need to be on a Visa. (Since this is a currency issue.)

In order to fly on your own in the U.S. you will need to convert your licence, by sending off the request form to the FAA. Once you arrive in the U.S., you will need to go to the local FSDO so you can have an FAA Licence issued on the basis of your JAA Licence.

Do not forget, for anyone in the U.K., they must notify the CAA that it is ok to release their information to the FAA. ;)

No, that is one of the two options!

The other option is to do one flight with an examiner! at considerably less cost.
