Super Cub, 18ft Take Off...!!!
Check this out, it is a super cub taking off in just 18ft. I also have the landing, it almost stops in the air then drops onto the ground but I can't upload it.... Never mind, enjoy this vid.... SUPER CUB VSTO. :ok:
P.S. Before the internet police come in bleating and demanding to know why this isn't in the video sticky at the top of the forum, well, it is not my personal video......:hmm: |
WOW
Super cool!
From the flag it looks like not much more than a normal head wind! I guess the ability to lift the tail while still on the breaks is a comblination of tail in the propwash, and leverage of the thrust arround the brakes! Standard technique in your back garden??? Were you there?? Ian |
Stunning !!!! Truly impressive...
Be a good chap , BRL, and see if you can get the landing download to work - - - - spoil us all!!!! :ok: |
Here you go.......... Super Cub Landing. :ok:
|
Yes, but the landing is a different aircraft. Either that or they've done a very quick upgrade and paint job between landing and take-off :)

Thanks BRL - you are a gentleman.
May be a different craft, but still pretty good to watch - though I reckon my Thruster TST lands in a shorter distance. :} |
Very nice!
The take off video stops straight after it takes off - I bet it's because it stalls straight away! The landing is the same ... you can't see the tail because someone quickly attached an anchor! :p only kiddin - very impressive Spikeee |
Around 1960/61, Wing Commander Murray, who was sales demonstration pilot for then Piper agents Vigors Aviation at Kidlington, used to perform a similar take-off routine in a Super Cub, though perhaps with not quite such a short run as this one. I remember seeing a fly-off between the PA-18 and a Helio Courier during a show at Kidlington, doing 'jump' T-Os over bunting strung between two poles. Can't recall who won, though.

Thanks BRL - that T/O is truly impressive :ok:

Very nice, BUT...
Lightly loaded, STOL droop tips, almost certainly vortex generators, stiff breeze, cool day, probably a 180HP mod. Don't try this at home with a stock PA18, folks! Extreme Super Cubbists are obsessive about weight and temperature and with a light cub, the right mods and the right conditions there is little you can't do. It's an amazing aircraft, but a lot of people die in Super Cubs, which is worth remembering lest one get a trifle too carried away. QDM |
Wouldn't try it at home, but it is an incredible sight!
|
That's not short...his wheels went round on landing!:O
