The first PPRuNe European fly-in..........

I have noticed there has not been a fly-in other than in the uk. How about flying to say, L2k or Ireland, Dublin/Belfast.

How about sometime in September.

Any other suggestions/ideas etc.

Usual will apply, poll to decide on date and venue.

Your thoughts please.............

I'm up for L2K. When are you thinking of?

PH-UKU 17th Aug 2004 21:52

Wot about .....

Kilrush in Ireland ??

Andy_R 18th Aug 2004 02:56

Not brave enough for a trip to Ireland yet but would be happy if the date was right to vote for Le Touquet

Jobby Wheecher 18th Aug 2004 07:32

Well I was thinking that Ireland is handy for eveyone - North and South ppruners. Afraid L2K is a 4 hour flight for us northern flyers :-( Southern Ireland on the other hand is about 2.

What an excellent way to extend yourself and persuade a more experienced person along for the extra comfort :E

Guys,

If you are thinking of comming west, I'd suggest Weston in Dublin.

If would be equally distant from Northern & Southern ppruners. Got 900m of tarmac. And is just about 9 miles outside of Dublin city centre.

Kilrush is a grass strip, so might not suit everyone.

You could go further south, to Waterford, but again, that's a long way for the northerners!

While we're mentioning new locations, how about one in northern England, or in Wales?

Le Touqet gets my vote. I like Ireland, was out in Waterford a couple of weeks ago but you will find that the turn it will mostyly be comprised of experianced flyers in good aircraft as it is one hell of a haul.

LFAT on the other hand is easy for most people.

Just my 2 cents.

BRL 18th Aug 2004 10:54

Just off out so can't post much.
Dates to think about; 18/19th Sept or 25/26 Sept.

Aim Far 18th Aug 2004 11:21

Oh come on, surely we can come up with somewhere a little more exotic than Le Touquet? How about Texel in Holland? Or somewhere in Germany?

Otherwise, Weston has my vote.

Going to Ireland will ensure a microlight-free event.

Whirlybird 18th Aug 2004 12:09

How about the Isle of Man?

mordien 18th Aug 2004 13:28

Sweden?

Cheap avgas and very nice people :)

(Although quite a long flight from the UK)

Always a warm welcome in Jersey!!!!!

Great idea but going that bit further away means that a multiday event may be more appropriate.

To go 2 or 3 hours each way for a buttie seems a bit of a missed opportunity.

To get those hours into one day and a few hours of socialising will be a bit of a problem in a few weeks time as it is getting dark earlier.

With the drawing in of the nights the weather is likely to become more of an issue than in the (supposedly) summer months.

Name a date and a venue and will see of the 4 Ws are all favourable to enable me to partake.

PS Dont want to be seen to be a spoil sport but remember being the only one pitching up for the Caernarfon fly in last year organised (and the weather was certainly not bad for that one) and being the only one (as I remember it) to pitch up at Coventry earlier this year (OK it was a bit windy)

IoM

Why not spend the night on the IoM?

Ask the locals if we can use one of the two disused strips up north, then bus in to Douglas for the afternoon - those that want holets can stay there, everyone else back to the airfield for a BBQ and piss-up.

I've filed for Jury before, with no problems from customs or special branch.
