Yak information, please
 

I am looking for a share in a Yak, somewhere in the greater London area, Hertordshire or Bedfordshire. I would love a share in an 18T but a 52 would be great too. I have met with a few Yak pilots in White Waltham and I understand that shares in good planes are quite difficult to come by. I would be grateful for any information, names, tips you may be able to provide.

Failing that, I’ll be considering buying my own Yak (there are a few for sale in France) and I would be grateful for information from owners on running costs. I have compiled lots of information from various web sites, but nothing beats information from the pilots themselves.

I understand there is a Yak fly-in in White Waltham on Sunday and I’ll be there.

I have a UK CAA and US pilot licences. I have about 600 hours, I fly close to 100 hours per year. I have flown Cessnas, DR400, Piper Cubs. I fly aeros on Cap10. I have flown to various parts of Europe as well as a couple of trips from France to central Africa (Mali, Burkina faso, Senegal). I have also flown in the US and Canada.

Hi CBG, I am selling a share in my '52 - have sent you a PM with more info.

The Yak 52 is a fantastic aeroplane to fly. If you can afford the fuel;)

Just be sure you never run out of air (for engine start) when away from base:( . Never did this myself when I was flying G-BWVR, but it was always a worry.

Its kind of based in the States. Like any forum there's some right nonsense talked on there, but there are also some very knowledgable and helpful folk as well.

Someone told me "the Yak crowd is agood bunch". It does seem to be the case.

I met a few pilots/owners in White Waltham on Sunday, all very keen to share information.

I have also been contacted by key PRUNERS, who offered good tips and info on Yaks.

I have not bought into a group yet - work commitments rushed me to Canada this week - but I do intend to join the Yak community in the not too distant future.

WOK?
 

Actually it is me and another group member, taken over Norfolk last October for a piece in January Pilot magazine, and far from a WOK the CJ6 out performs the Yak 52 in many ways.

Lovely bit of kit 6 of us own it and fly it as much as we can.

Having flown your aircraft, and owning a Yak, it is actually difficult to compare. It depends on the persons requirements. The WOK has some serious good points above the 52, whereas the 52 outstrips it in others.

Fair to conclude both make you smile, and stand head and shoulders above anything to make 2 people smile.
