UK Glider Accident??
CNN, in the US, is currently running a ticker showing a glider accident in the Central UK??
Any news? |
Are CNN short on stories today?

UK Glider Accident?
I guess so, but it is not a good weekend for general aviation over here with the Cessna meeting the twin yesterday near Tampa and the Caravan in Lake Erie.
|
Two killed unfortunately; one at the scene and one later. Sounds fairly horrific.
You can find the BBC news story here. Don't have the experience nor the inclination to speculate; after all, with all respect to the media, 'field near the A5199' could well mean the airfield ('The Soaring Centre' aka Husbands Bosworth). That airfield has a good reputation. Thoughts are with the families. [edit: Scotsman.com article suggests the crash occurred on farmland, not the airfield.] |
UK Glider Accident??
Thanks for the update and my thoughts are also with the families and friends.
Not a good weekend either side of the pond. BaD. |
I was towing there earlier today, and seem to have left for work just before the accident. Too late to phone around now, but any info please let me know.
I am sure to know these poor souls My thoughts are with my friends and colleagues:( |
It was a Puchacz HCD a Soaring Centre Glider But flown by visiting Welland gliding Club members. Unfortnately both fatal, P2 at the scene & p1 on air amberlance. It is sad to report P2 was only 15 years old, looking forward to his 16th birthday.
The glider was seen spinning recovering & spinning again, finnishing up by the canal near the village. A very sad day condolances to all |
Thanks, Keg. ('R', by any chance?) Saw the poor kid at the launch point.
Sympathies to the families involved |
Got a call about this from a member of my flying club to say it wasn't my instructor. The BBC news site has very little information - is there any more available? :(
|
There's a further BBC story here, naming those involved.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/l...re/3409847.stm RIP. |
It seems almost unreal at times. It was in the next village along from where I live. I remember driving to work and all the emergency vehicles speeding in the other direction. My condolances to all.
Quite freaky as I was a gliding instructor with the ATC - It makes you think when it is so close to home. |
He was the past Chairman of my gliding club, the chairman of our village council and my neighbour, a good man who will be missed.
