Home for Pietenpol

A friend of mine, a student PPL, has just moved to the Heathrow area. He owns and was receiving instruction in a Pietenpol, which he now wants to hangar and continue instruction at an airfield within travelling distance of Heathrow.

He has already discovered White Waltham has a long waiting list for hangar space, any other suggestions out there??

You could try Fairoaks (Surrey)

Since he can only be instructed at a licensed airfield, and hangerage is very very hard to find in that part of the world the best bet [I]may[/] be to put the aircraft on a tie-down with covers over the wings for a few months somewhere like White-Waltham, then move it to a friendly farmstrip as soon as he's qualified.

A pietenpol was one that I didn't really know, so I just got some piccies of Airliners.net. First one shows how best to store a Pietenpol!!

Pietenpol Piccie 1
Pietenpol Piccie 2
Pietenpol Piccie 3
Pietenpol Piccie 4 (my favourite!)

Depends how far he's prepared to travel - there's Denham (although I don't know the hangarage situation there) and Blackbushe as well.

Lack of hangarage is the biggest drawback to owning a fabric covered aeroplane.

Panshanger has a few "portable" hangars on the field. Apparently security is good, you just need to negotiate with the owners to get on there. It's an option I'm considereing and I'll PM you with the results.

Does his Piet have folding wings?

Since we're talking about airfields close to Heathrow, you may also want to consider Booker (aka Wycombe Air Park), although it won't be cheap (but then again neither will anything else close to London). Best people to contact about hangerage availability and costs would probably be the BA flying club ('cos they own the airfield).

Folding wings??

Unfortunately the aircamper does not have folding wings.
