Need to fly a puppy to Jersey

No, I’m not joking!

A family friend who lives in Jersey needs to transport a puppy from Yorkshire to Jersey and is happy to cover the cost of doing this.

The dog can be delivered to an address on the mainland, the problem is the sea crossing as the ferries aren’t running.

Is there anyone with a commercial licence (so that the costs can be paid) that could take this on?

I’d be grateful for a PM or email if anyone could do this or knows someone that can.

Many thanks!!

I'm pretty sure RVL Group at East Mids operates EMA-JER quite regularly, although I'm not sure if they do pets!

When I first saw this thread I thought it meant New Jersey because the natives say Jersey instead of New Jersey.

General aviation is also not allowed at the moment.Currently as far as Im aware only two flights operating West Atlantic for cargo(once daily) and BlueIslands 3x a week to Southampton.BlueIslands do not allow animal cargo sorry.
Things should be changing over next week or two,

Carrying your own puppy is a grey area of animal transport, transporting a strangers puppy definitely is animal transport and needs the appropriate permits and licenses ... Transport Certificate, Certificate of Competency, IATA LAR Live Animal Rules Certificate, Dangerous Goods Certificate (for the nail gun you have to carry in case), AOC etceteras are a long list of papers and licenses you will need to do.

Forgive my ignorance but isn't an AOC required if receiving payment of any kind?

looking at flight radar yesterday there were hundreds of GA flights including dozens of gliders.

Including commercial clearance to carry exactly that breed ... transport permit is restricted to named animals and breeds, can't carry dogs on Leicester sheep permit.

Not into Jersey, we have to get prior permission to leave the island from Customs before travelling.Travel allowed for lifeline flights https://www.gov.je/news/2020/pages/G...ueIslands.aspx
Notams still in place. Im operating as pilot on these.

West Atlantic is licensed to carry live animals and there would be room in the lower holds on a Jersey run. However, that flight is fully contracted to Royal Mail so I'm not sure if they could take an extra charter on it. It wouldn't harm to phone them and ask.

Put a stamp on the puppy and throw it in the Royal Mail box?

Wrong, ChickenHouse!

If it's a Collie you can! How else do you make sure the sheep stay seated? They'd run rings round the Cabin Crew and send them mad if no dog were allowed on board during the flight to keep order!!!

Erm, is "lockdown" starting to get to H 'n' H?

I did this many years ago when I lived in Jersey. The (now) ex decided she had to have a Bernese mountain dog and we picked it up in Land's End. We just asked someone at the Aero Club if they wanted to to fly us over if we paid for the gas. Perfectly legal.

Ironically, I found this quite useful and it prompted me to get my license.

The pilot was Chris Wench, Jersey aviation legend.

Good luck!

Amazing what you learn. Years ago I took a puppy in a cage Inverness to Heathrow. Never even thought of rules. She went checked baggage, no cost, picked her up at Heathrow and handed to new owners.

As has been pointed out, there’s more to it - however I’ll agree that the majority of animals brought into the island are through the aero club. I wonder how often the immigration authorities are called up there to meet these flights? For a commercial charter flight, it’s every time...
