Amanda Harrison

I have just seen from the Telegraph that Amanda Harrison is planning to fly solo to Darwin and is scheduled to depart next month. Amanda had previously expressed her plan to do this trip but 'someone else' beat her to it - I will say no more. It seems that Amanda has had some significant personal problems to deal with also. I wish her all the best and do hope she succeeds. You have to admire her gumption.

Wish her all the best with her adventure; I thought it had all gone quiet which really didn't seem to tally with her nature - pleased that the problems are behind her, as hopefully will be the UK as she heads SE across the globe towards her goal.

I think I suggested before that her adventure should begin on the Purley Way playing fields, across the A23 from the hallowed grounds of Croydon Airport (the airport site really isn't suitable any more). There is plenty of space for a Tiger...

This indeed looks like a worthy project and I would suggest Amanda might set-up up a Go Fund Me page. The spirit of her adventure seems likely to attract private aviators who might each feel able donate the cost of an hours flying.

Looks like a nice trip, good luck to her!

Referring to oneself as "Captain" on ones' website is a bit cheesy though

Fantastic news. I always maintained this trip in memory of Amy Johnson had to be in a Tiger Moth.

Looking at her website she has had to undertake breast cancer treatment so the last few years have been difficult.

Why stop at Darwin? Go to Sydney Amanda.

Good luck.

And she's off! Heading east across Kent now. Looks like one of Biggin's Spitfires may have just given her an airborne salute!

Latest from the Daily Telegraph.

Ms Harrison tonight had taken a a detour and landed at Saarburcken Airport in Germany, the first stop of her 37-step journey, less than six hours after she took off today.

According to her Facebook page, Amanda had a bird-strike on the spinner as she landed. One hopes the bird wasn't in a biplane...sorry....sorry..sorry.

Good luck to Amanda - and blue skies.

She seems to be playing this very low key and matter of fact.

Must be using a different firm of public relations consultants to the other bird who did some flying in a bi-plane. Shucks.....can't remember her name, will have to "Google" it....!!!

Blog here - spinner seems so have departed the hub with no further damage, might decrease airspeed by half a knot or so!

And not to forget the effect on the engine cooling airflow - it may well be a required item !
