Kudos to JPI's programmers

Today I was flying my gliding club's C182 towplane, when the EGT probe on Number 5 cylinder failed. We have a JPI EDM 700 engine monitor and normally the EGT for each cylinder is displayed as an illuminated bar graph and the CHT for each cylinder is displayed as a gap in the bar.

The loss of EGT information is not a big deal as we just climb and descend - no need for precision leaning. However, CHT information is critical to avoid shock-cooling in descent. The display for Number 5 went into an alternate mode, with the CHT displayed as an illuminated bar. A very nice, clever idea. Well done JPI.
