Turn up ,Check out and Fly Oz

Just seen elsewhere a question asking how easy to fly as a UK / Canadian tourist in Australia.

An instructor in Vancouver wants to turn up and fly solo Boxing Day with just two weeks in Australia.

Will CASA oblige?

I doubt he could get through the paperwork in a month.
If you wish to apply for issue of a CoV whilst still overseas, please allow extra time to undergo a security check - a standard security check will take from four to six weeks to complete. This is in addition to the 28 days CASA normally requires to process a CoV application.
The full details are here.

I believe the red tape involved in a licence validation for Oz pretty much killed off the flying tours that used to operate there.

Tell him to try NZ, our CAA is much more user friendly.

There are essentially 10 business days between now and then - I would be amazed if it could be sorted by then.
Might be easier to put it out on here and see who is all flying over the Christmas break and arrange some private-cost sharing flying.
If you let us know where he's planning, I could give some recommendations of people/places to get in touch with.

They are extremely friendly, but it still took 7 working days to get the email with the licence validation. I was also required to do "Terrain And Weather Awareness" training in addition to the "Low Flying" requirements to pass the bi-annual test and hence rent an aeroplane there.

You're probably much better off getting someone to sit in the RHS, and do all the flying!

He's better off staying put in Thailand, Jay. No way he will get it done in time.
