I can assure everyone here that the Cub has a valid airworthiness permit. He wouldn't insult anyone's intelligence by blaming someone else for issues beyond their control.
As someone on another forum said "Maurice is like Marmite - you either like him or you don't"

So how do you KNOW he has a valid Permit?
On the question of the flight to Jersey I'm sure you know that the landowner has to give permission to land . In this case it was refused so NOT good to go or divert.
They would no doubt have good valid reasons from past experience to withhold such permission.
Well said Jetblu
If some loon was trying to drive his battered 1943 car from the UK to Cape Town and had a puncture and broke his suspension, and crunched his drive shaft (propeller) ...twice....and also found himself with no paperwork, in darkest Africa, who would suggest calling out the FCO, the Embassy, the RAF, the local S @R twice, or anyone else?
No one would give a toss.

Hmmm. "Well said" - Its been deleted, again.
"A LAA Permit is only valid in the Country of issue. It is required to be validated for every country to be overflown. I would love to see the Validations issued by Ethiopia, Sudan and some other dark places in Africa. Have you seen them JetBlu, or, to quote yourself so often, if this hearsay?
So how do you KNOW he has a valid Permit?"
Common sense prevails, that is how.
A renowned organiser took on just over 12 aircraft to fly Crete2Cape.
He arranged all paperwork logistics.
'IF' Maurice's paperwork is found to be out of order, so will all the others presumably.

From my previous experience with several aircraft which were force landed, they must be guarded. Otherwise things happen to them. Maurice's best airplane help right now would simply to have the plane made secure for the duration.
If there is hull insurance, the insurer will usually pay for security, until the aircraft can be recovered. The pilot/owner has some responsibility to arrange this if they are able, though it sounds like Maurice made fairly not be able.
A don't know the England/Europe/Africa insurance market, so I speculate, but in North America, most aircraft insurance, and in particular the hull portion specifies geographical limitations, simply because the insurer does not want to be on the hook for high recovery costs from far away places. I have been on recoveries, where the cost to recover exceeded the hull value insured. Our instructions were simply to "not leave a mess" when we cleaned it up. The insurer got nothing out of it. We got the wreck, they did not get the recovery bill. The reality is that a low cost GA plane can be flown to a place from which getting it back exceeds it's value. I wonder if Sudan could be one of those places for a Cub.

Terry Holloway.............
Thanks Terry, I have emailed MAF UK today, so hope to hear from their office on Monday. I will keep you updated. Above the clouds has also sent a message via Linkedin, but there is nothing wrong with a three pronged approach. I think Ryan Cuthel is based in Nairobi, so hopefully he picks up emails on a regular basis.
I will keep you updated. Do we have a way of contacting Maurice in the event we can get him help, for example mobile, email, consulate, embassy or police?

It is published on his FB account but I would rather not print it here. If you can send me an e mail I will respond!
A Pipistral was also damaged on landing yesterday. They are excluded from the Rally until repairs are complete.

UK field landings probably differ from African....
I landed in a winter wheat crop, the farmer was not amused and wanted pay for crop damage, suggested that he would not permit the glider to be removed until he had compensation....so we said fine, you are responsible now for any damage it may sustain while it is under your care and control. He became much more helpful after that.
The only unkind farmer encountered in 30 years of field landings!

To repeat, there is absolutely no question that ALL of his paperwork was in order before the Rally. Fairly obvious and simple baseline that we needed from all crews before they could be accepted.

Sam Rutherford....
I do not dispute that the paperwork was in order at the start of the rally for all participants including MK, the problem is that MK claims you haven't provided him, as I understand it, with the documents for overflight and flight within South Sudan, which is why, again as I understand it, he was placed in a police cell.
I'm really surprised you didn't give the complete bundle of documents to crews at the start of the rally from Crete to the Cape at the start, just in case someone became separated from 'the pack', which it seems to be the case with MK and two other crews.

I would like to chat to Jenny Johnston of The Daily Mail about her article quoting me. Those quotes wer given to The Times 10 days ago in a different context to the circumstances Maurice is in today.
Alas I'm not having much luck with either Kenyan contacts or MAF. I've spoken to an ex MAF pilot in Cambridge, who tells me that the aeroplane is in "real bandit territory". He offered the opinion that it would be difficult to get there to fix it. His view is that the aeroplane has probably been stripped already and that the best outcome is for Maurice to be repatriated to either the U.K. or Nairobi. I will continue to do what I can to help.

Newspaper journalists are very selective with whom they contact for comment Terry. Had they contacted more informed persons closer to the judicial shenanigans surrounding Maurice, a completely different picture would have emerged. But that wouldn't make a good story, would it.

Maurice's family say they understand that his cub is on the back of a lorry.
Can we work out the next relevant stages from that first step? Stating the obvious, we can expect a lorry may not make it out of the area. But we assume it will try sometime. But we do not know when as yet.

This seems to be the latest post from MK on Facebook, things do not seem to be looking to good, but hard to tell sometimes from the postings.
