I know little of Mr. Kirk, I'm safely on the left side of the Atlantic. However, as I understand it, Mr. Kirk agreed to participate in a rally, and then perhaps stopped acting like a participant, and went rouge.
If you choose to be a part of a team, you play the team game by the team rules. Like any human, I wish him safety flying in Africa, but I don't think he's worthy of celebration. Eccentric maybe, but if you've chosen to be a part of the team, play their game. Or, go solo, and leave the team to it's own objectives.

If you had organised a flying rally from UK to Cape Town (or wherever) and some prick turned up with criminal convictions up the ying-yang, endless convictions for dangerous or illegal flying, a flying reputation as a lawless and barely competent lunatic, been busted as a vet for grotesquely unprofessional behaviour and generally led a life of in yer face confrontation with all decent society would you want him in your rally?
noflynomore............ Take it you are not a fan of the flying vet??!!

Should there be anyone out there daft enough to have supportive feelings about this imbecile
all decent society
Given the language used in your post, I`m not sure I would wish to be included in your society.
Tabs please !
The man is an utter embarrassment to the UK
Well, I would be more than happy to stand him a beer and listen to his tales. It would be a very entertaining evening spent in the company of someone who I believe is neither a walt nor a bullsh*tter.
We wanted to give Maurice a shot at getting to Cape Town, and gave him lots of help and space to do so. There came a stage, however, when the status of the equipment on board and his ability to use backups, became a danger to both himself and others.
We suggested he return to Khartoum and have everything fixed, he ignored this and promptly got lost (again) trying to find Gambella (SAR procedures begun) and then again en route Kenya (SAR procedures again begun).
Putting your own life in danger is one thing, creating (avoidable) situations where others might have to put their own lives at risk to save you is another.

Totally understandable. But you did say you'd support him till Kenya but he is stuck in S Sudan trying to get to Nairobi.
After that you are off the hook.

For MK to be doing what he is attempting to do at his age is nothing short of marvellous. Irrespective of the 'rights and wrong's' he could be sitting round his fireside scratching his backside.
He isn't, he's out doing things and if that upsets some of the 'blazers' I'm sure they'll get over it.

Sam....... That is MK!! What did you expect?
Have to say I wish him well and hope he makes Cape Town.

Maurice has some absolutely brilliant flying stories that he tells me. But he is 72 years old and we can expect him to be worn out from those court cases. He deserves that extra support.
Does he have his emergency beacon now? in the facebook video he seems to say it was taken off him while trapped at the airport?

Kirk set off with the rest under an agreement, both sides need to keep to that.
There would come a point where Sam/Vintage Rally would NOT be obliged to get Kirk to Cape Town. If he's wilfully going off and getting lost and putting others at risk he should withdraw. That point has been and gone.

It's a disgrace to have taken him on in the first place knowing his reputation.....
He wasn't abandoned anywhere. We disqualified him from the Rally for a number of reasons and prepared everything for a safe return to Khartoum where he would have the support required to fix the discrepancies.
He ignored our advice and promptly got lost again (in ETH) and then had a forced landing in South Sudan (his third in 2 weeks).
We are providing as much support as is possible (working with the FCO) as far as Kenya where we hope he will arrive shortly.
As far as accepting him in the first place, we wanted to help him realise his dream of flying to Cape Town. A mistake, perhaps, but made with good intentions. Indeed, once he's got to Kenya the 'difficult' bit is complete - so he may still manage to achieve his dream.

As Sam has said the journey will become easier once he reaches Kenya.
Invitation to meet the South Sudanese area governor while on the the scrounge for fuel and sponsored re-union with Liberty Girl before blown over out there in the desert...a real possibility

Maurice is ok feeling a bit better today he was at Mangocamp, Kapoeta this morning. The authorities are looking after him. He landed approx 50 miles north of Kapoeta. His GPS was stolen and many other items we lent our GPS and he hopes to be in Lokichogio tonight or tomorrow.

A question here regards what Maurice says in his 2015 videos, could this trip be a real big one.

And if so can Maurice (at 72 years old and been through a hard time with legal matters) be helped to have the support and kit he needs ?
