A and C's point is valid, though I would not suggest that the additional expense of a noise cancelling headset is justified by that. I was the last generation of pilots who trained in 150s, in which there were no intercoms at all. We did not use headsets, and rather just yelled at each other. In a 150/152, that works, though is obviously undesirable. Where it does make a big difference is in tandem seat trainers, where communication, and assurance of understanding is more difficult.
Like bicycles in the city, the shiny new, expensive one becomes a target for theft (AKA the new Bose A20), and used beater looking one is overlooked by the bad people. Headsets can have a hard life, particularly if they go in and out of a rental aircraft. Mind are charmed, as they all just live, plugged in to my aircraft. but if you're plugging and unplugging, wrapping and unwrapping cords, and jamming in with other gear, they suffer. Better that a cheap headset takes the wear and tear, than an expensive one....

As I get older, I find background noise more distracting. I suspect strongly that ANR will begin to look attractive - I might even look at an ANR upgrade for the Sennheiser passive headset I have although I'm OK at the moment. So, I suspect that people's attitude to ANR/PNR depends a bit on age.
Speaking of ANR/PNR and age - this week's entry for 'You know you're getting old when.....'
I use both DCs and Bose at various times. Went for a couple of flights at the weekend, one straight after the other, wearing the Bose and had a raging headache afterwards and didn't know why. Only when I got home and unpacked my gear did I realise I hadn't turned the darned things on.....

Thanks again for the advice, just wondering whether anyone has an opinion on this flightcom headset?

And also any opinions on this sennheiser headset?

Flightcom headsets are fine - although nothing special.
Never buy online from Flightstore however - there's a long running thread on PPrune about them somewhere - but basically a lot of stuff never turns up.
You could go to Sywell this weekend for the LAA rally - there's likely to be multiple shops with stuff you can try out.

There is no long-running thread about any problems with Flightstore that I can see in the last 5 years, apart from a few complaints about over-enthusiastic email marketing (aka spam).

There is no such thing a budget headset.
It is another word for cheap.
Looking back I wasted a lot of money over decades on cheap headsets when I should have bought DC.
The only plus side is no one will steal a cheapo headset.

I think that you are unfairly confusing them with Proviation, about which there was a long-running thread, and they were definitely dodgy.
