Fenton an airfield close to my heart! I hope it all works out, that place is just too good to whither away.
P.S. Anyone joining via Selby, keep your eyes peeled as Sherburn use it as a joining point as well, it's not one I'd have picked.
Hope the day is a good one though, I may take a trip over with my lad (driving unfortunately), I've worked on that tower on and off for 10 years.

Also beware that Burn gliding club will be active that day so give that a wide berth, it's just south west of Selby.
If you fly to the north of Selby you should miss it ok.

Let's hope that Mr Makin consults with the team at Gloucester and with AOPA and doesn't start breeding white elephants, GOOD LUCK TO HIM

I'm absolutelý certain that Mr Makin, as a reasonaby wealthy businessman won't have spent oodles of dosh to breed White Elephants. However your words of encouragement will delight him I'm sure.
With all these other Airfields closing as though there were an epidemic, I am not certain AOPA would be much help.

I really hope this all works out for him. What a great start to 2015 if so - instead of losing another airfield, we 'gain' one for GA.

I'm worried it's too close to Sherburn, but I hope it can succeed.

With the Fly-in changed to Sunday (due weather) it looks like the weather may still play a part... fog forecast in the south where many aeroplanes are coming from.

I wonder if it will be a new flying school or whether Sherburn Aero Club will move as I think they only rent Sherburn Airfield so are not tied down....

But if they move won't they still be renting from the new owner of CF? There's a lot of engineering infrastructure at Sherburn, it's not just a case of flying the jets over the fence to CF. The Aero Club gear is serviced by Sherburn Engineering. It would make sense to me only if they are going to keep all of the runways at CF open as Sherburn just has the one hard.

Mind you, there may be stuff happening at Sherburn that we don't know about and Mr Makin does. Whatever I wish him all the best as anyone actually opening somewhere has to be applauded.

My recollection is that Sherburn Aero club own the airfield and have always been very comfortably off thank you very much.

Of course, I may be wrong......

My response from Chris Makin (airfield owner) when I enquired was as follows:

"No ppr , standard joining procedure"

There is a NOTAM stating:
REMAIN CLEAR OF SHERBURN ATZ
ROUTE TO CHURCH FENTON VIA ONE OF:
WETHERBY RACE COURSE
GARFORTH MOTORWAY INTERCHANGE
SELBY

Call 07450 461045 for more info

Can someone confirm the Ground frequency is only for use on the ground (talking to marshallers etc)?

I assume aircraft will be using Safetycom when arriving AND when departing.

Church Fenton Fly in

The radio seems to be poorly implemented. From what I understand, Fenton Radio for vacating, receiving the marshalers, and departures. Safety com for departing and arriving the runway, and the circuit.

Hoping to fly in from Gamston in our C-182Q. I'll be the one wearing the Harley-Davidson baseball cap. The nearest I have ever got to owning one !

Feel free to say hello
