Any aircraft you're considering buying, look the registration up on G-INFO...
GINFO Database Search | Aircraft Register | Operations and Safety
That will give you the full and correct designation, real hours, and what engine it should have fitted.
There are others, but the most often mentioned source of second hand light and microlight aeroplane adverts is AFORS...

And before buying an aeroplane, hire a suitably qualified AND INDEPENDENT inspector (LAA or BMAA depending upon aeroplane) to give you a full and frank report on the aeroplane.
Also check with any owners club whether there's any gossip about the particular airframe (and search the registration on the AAIB website to see if it's been crashed, although with a "rag and tube" aeroplane like the Rans or X'Air, that's no big concern as all the bent bits should have just been replaced with new parts).

Get an Auster if you can find one for sale. Preferably one with a steerable tailwheel which makes the ground handling much better than the free castoring shopping trolley wheel fitted as standard. For more grunt and easier parts availability get a Gypsy engined one (like a J1/N) rather than the Cirrus engined J1. The Cirrus is smoother and more economical but, at 100hp, is less powerful than the Gypsy powered versions. Ignore the bull about them being hard to land, you just have to get the speed right which means being prepared to land veeery slowly!

Have a ride in as many of the above mentioned as you can. Decide on which you like the best (a Choice of 2 or 3) then find one, get a good inspection then buy it.
There are more opinions than Aircraft. Most of them are valid and honest, but are mainly opinions.

thanks guys, i will wait and see how it goes, theres a possibility of the chance of a share in a rans s6 already at strathaven, i am going to contact them and see whats what, this way i have some experienced people behind me, will see what the details are and get back too you all

Just my 2 cents worth, but anything with a gypsy or cirrus engine will take a bit more money for maintenance. A lycosaurus on a permit or a rotax four stroke would be my option. But then, I go touring in a Supercub so what do I know about it?

At last!!!
Well its certainly been a while! I bought G-BTBY this week and was searching for something and came across this post i made 6years ago!
Took me a while to find the right A/C 🤣 I've owned and flown an Avid speedwing an Escapade so im sure the Vagabond will be easy enough for me to master in comparison.

Yea great little plane, now based at Strathaven. Landed yesterday unfortunately I'm working in north Germany at the min so wont see it for 3 weeks! looking forward to flying it soon although covid might have other ideas!
