Flying into Bruntingthorpe

Thinking of going to Bruntingthorpe probably mid-week.
Can I get a brew and just wander around or do they have security Gestapo to stop you ?
Is there much to see ?
I looked at the website but it doesn't give much away.

I would wait until the cold war jet day in May. I've flown into that before and it's an excellent day out. The next one is on 25th May. Taxiways are a bit dodgy in places by the way. I think the museum part is only open on Sunday. However if you have a burning desire to go soon theres a decent pub in the local village. They use the runway for vehicle testing so don't know what access would be like mid week.

I drove over there a couple of weeks ago to see round the museum.

It is only open Sunday's from 10 until 4 and its a fiver to get in, well worth it as I was able to wander freely inside the Guppy. There's no place to get a tea or a coffee though.

When I was there I asked them about whether you could fly in, they said it would be no problem and just to call them up on the radio. They didn't know what the landing fee was.

Would make most sense to fly in on a Sunday when the museums open, there's not a lot otherwise to see there.

Suggest you do more than just call them up on the radio. They are not always open to visiting aircraft.

Flying in on the days when they are doing the fast taxiing is highly recommended. A wonderful day out and I can't wait to go again. Being close to the Nimrod or the Victor is quite special and as for the Lightning....

About four aircraft flew in on the day I went. I called in the week and received a helpful briefing. I think you have to be in before 10 or 10.30 before everything starts. They receive you and then minibus you to the spectators area. When I went the ground team kept us well away from the display area. They picked us up at about 4pm for our departure.

The only sad moment was the realisation that my 182 was the heaviest aircraft to get off the ground that day. Go and do it...

A couple of years ago when they held the Project Propeller event there, they used part of one of the taxiways and a strip of grass alongside, near the museum as runways. There were one or two "sporting" departures by twins. Several of them blew away the cones depicting the access road for another event being held at the same time.
