caa licence issuing time
Hi all,
Thanks to the folks at the caa,they received the ppl application on the 14th October and i received the the licence today the 13th November,cheers,

Nice to hear some of the government departments are doing well. I sent off a passport renewal a couple of months ago. It was posted on the Friday afternoon, so they would have had it on the Monday morning. The following Monday the new passport arrived. I was so impressed I called customer service to pass on my thanks.

Apologies for sounding like a bit of a Meldrew but is one calendar month to turn around a document really that quick?
In this wonderful online world in which we live I get grumpy if something I order on day one is not delivered by day two.

Very shortly, the CAA will be introducing on-line pilot licensing forms, starting with LAPL / PPL / FRTOL applications and UK to Part-FCL licence conversions as these constitute the vast majority of the CAA Hub's licence production workload.
To complement the on-line application process, initially the PPL application process will require a single page A4 'course completion' certificate, which will eliminate any need for the submission of logbooks, Q X-C authorisation forms and the like. It may either be scanned and sent as an attachment to the on-line application form, or sent in hard copy if the ATO doesn't have a scanner.
The on-line application process itself promises to be very simple and should be idiot-proof, so there should be no applications delayed or returned because either the dim-witted applicant or lazy examiner overlooked an administrative requirement.
Later, following further IT development, the forms will be able to 'auto-populate' with data derived from CAA reference numbers and will also allow the 'course completion' certificate to be completed on-line, once a suitable electronic authorisation process has been identified and tested.
So, very soon now, applications should be able to be processed even quicker!

I sent my application for a new EASA licence because of a new additional rating on the 26th waited the time no payment was taken gave them a call to be told it was in the finance department. When the post arrived that day all the paperwork was sent back with a letter saying "SRG**** was missing please send stated form" yet in with the application they sent back the 'missing form' was in with the paper work with the caa received stamp on it.

Why do I need to show the CAA my log book at all. My examiner already checked them. Trust your examiners CAA...you make them jump through enough hoops.

I went in last month with credit card, a new type rating form and all the associated paperwork and walked out two hours later with ATPL/A and ATPL/H changed to EASA licences and the new type added, and the young lady who looked after me was utterly charming and her male colleague had a superb sense of humour.

Are the queues that big at the front desk of the Gatwick office that they can't deal with applications posted into them? I called the FCL department today to find out the status/progress of the application to be told its passed gross error department and its waiting for a licencing officer whenever he/she gets round to it and there's no time scale on that. Quick enough to take the money but not produce the goods.

Yes and why cannot an examiner do that? It would mean your licence was ready to go straight away.

Two months and still waiting...
Sent my UK PPL to EASA PPL conversion in in September...and still waiting.
That despite calls and emails to check on progress, all of which reported that the application was stuck in a backlog, but would be dealt with soon...

Sent mine on 28th October. Called them on Tuesday, still in a 'backlog', not been started yet!! On the website, still says 10 days processing time. Long days down South aren't they??

Over the years they have received a number of fraudulent applications, some tipped off by an examiner who has spotted something odd. The examiner has no power to take any action and the CAA has a responsibility to check that applicants are qualified for the licenes and ratings they issue

I generally find the counter service superb, having been numerous times I have never had a problem.
Trying to get anything done by phone and/or email though is hugely difficult. I have been trying to get them to amend dates on my licence that they issued incorrectly since July, and despite several attempts on the phone and via email, I have been waiting on a 'Technical Support Officer' to look at the dates since August. No time scale available.

Sent in a month ago, passed the gross error check, they may start working
on applications received a month ago this WEEKEND.
Yes, they are working weekends to cope with the bow wave caused by the" end of season, I will do it now " rush.
