Great Ashfield Airfield Suffolk
Flying around this weekend I overflew Great Ashfield - the runway looks in quite good condition (apart from the tree - you know what I mean if you know the place !!)
Does anyone know if it's still active or useable ?? and whether it is PPR if it is useable ??
Thanks
Arc

I went there as part of a Dawn to Dusk trip a few years ago. The runway is concrete and is in excellent condition and there were two Cessnas tied down at one end. I think the famous tree was actually at RAF Ludham by the way. I will see if I can dig out the owners details although a local may be able to help you more.

I landed in my glider once at Great Ashfield, and had no chance to get PPR first. I contacted the owner, who was very obliging, and I paid a landing fee.
I can’t speak for now, but then the southern part of the runway was OK. There was a fence dividing the southern, landable, part, from the northern part which appeared to now be an industrial estate.
There were a few private owners based there, and a hangar which at least some of them used.
I don’t know how to get hold of the owner now to ask for PPR.
HTH.

Arc, is such a T&G done without PPR and/or paying a landing fee? Seems to me not a courteous way to treat a landowner, if so. I hope my posting does not lead to any such discourtesy, as I was only trying to answer the OP.
