I too tried to get in at Manchester. I emailed on 22nd Sept and didn't even get a reply! (Bit rude)
Have since been in touch with Blackpool who were great, and more than happy to have me round.

We went a few years ago - one of the first, I think - and usually manage to get to the safety evenings when around MAN, usually organised by Chris Walsh, who also does some of the tours.
Tried again both this time and the time before, without success. Might be the last one at the old (i.e., the 2nd) tower, as the new one can't be far off completion, now.
A very interesting and worthwhile experience, which confirms what we have known for years, that most ATCOs at MAN are very much pro GA. Our group is now the sole surviving GA aircaft based there...
Enjoy the visit!

BEWARE!!!
Our group is now the sole surviving GA aircaft based there...
Do you accept this as the norm or should this be heavily fought for? This is your last remaining instrument capable airport that opens at night!
You risk ending up with another Luton or Southampton, where their flying club and groups disappeared and landings, handling and overnight parkings for light aircraft going up to hundreds of pounds in minimum fees.

Well, thank you Chris and NATS. A fabulous visit to EGCC ATC this morning made better by the sunshine and amazing views from the VCR. We had a Beluga divert in from Hawarden who were 200m; you could see the line of fog from MAN Tower!
Pics and a report on my blog.
