Gliding at Lasham 1950s and 1960's
Colour footage shot in the mid 1950's on 8mm at Lasham, plus a short scene in about 1961.
Can anyone identify the gliders?

I think that the strutted glider is a Slingsby T31.
And the yellow glider at 1:46 - possibly a Slingsby Swallow. I got my Silver Height in one when a member of the Southdown Gliding Club - the bargraph shows a vertical line from where I got the thermal at 800' and left it at 7500'.
I've got a lot of happy memories of gliding in the 70s

The gliders at the beginning are Olypia 2b. The were made post war by Elliots of newbury as a coppy of the Meise that was going to be in the Olympics glider for the ill fated 1940 olympics.
There is going to be an olympic style competition in June 2012 to recreate the non event.
Incidentally the runways look in much better condition these days!

In order.

T 21 being launched with T21 wingtip on the right!
T 21 flown solo landing
Green Oly 2B being launched with T21 in the background
Morris Traveller Estate

I guessing the Morris Estate was included because it had about the same glide ratio as the T 21

Wow! That brought back some memories. 1st solo in Rudolph (the red nosed T21), Daisy and flying the Olympias Redo, Greeno and Pedro.
Derek Piggott, Derek Goddard, Ann Burns, Ann Proctor, Philip Wills, Wally Kahn, Hugo Trotter and Ann Welch are the personalities at Lasham that spring to mind from that time so long ago in the 50's.
