Having to wear bright vests isn't such a bad thing, I've been wearing them for years! You should see my underpants.
Seriously though why should we be told we have to wear loud clothing? Like the guy said earlier if you are near an aircraft and you get hit a Vest woon't make any difference.

Is there an international standard for yellow jackets?
I understand that there are international standards for things like car baby seats, condoms and spanners...
Without a definitive standard for yellow jackets, China might start importing inferior less-luminescent, shorter cut versions that might compromise airside safety. (Heaven help us if they start importing FAA ones into the UK!)
Perhaps we would all look at this differently if Tom Cruise starred in a new Top Gun movie where he slips his little yellow jacket over the obligatory patch covered leather jobster... then again, maybe not.

The wearing of fluorescent jackets by visiting aviators has nothing to do with avoiding accidents. This is small willy syndrome and is particularly endemic amongst wannabe international airports. In much the same way as one sees hard hats and, spookily enough, fluorescent jackets, displayed on the parcel shelves of faceless family saloons by hen-pecked Norman No-Friends who aspire to the rugged respectability of the construction worker or, Heaven forbid, the traffic warden (or is it police ****stable), so do airports of the stature of Exeter and Halfpenny Green (sorry, Dudley Executive International, isn't it?) use tools such as this to proclaim their greatness to the World. Or is it a noble attempt to reduce the appalling airside collision rate between aircraft and pedestrians that has grown at such an alarming rate in recent years? It has, hasn't it?

When these dayglo jackets were introduced at LHR, one pilot had a suitcase fall on his nut when passing the rear hold- Jacket didn't save him did it! I tried putting mine on at the top of the airstairs during a windy day and nearly took off in the breeze. As I landed on the tarmac I couldn't understand what anyone was saying as I was lying injured on the ground until I realised my "deafness" was caused by having my ear protectors forced into my brain by the fall.
