Getting SEP rating back

My SEP rating lapsed a couple of years ago and I want to get it back. Mainly as my Girlfriend wants me to take her flying (I think she's seen the adverts for that film Amelia) plus of course I miss it. I last flew a SE aircraft in '05, and I did keep up proper hand flying when working on the maritime coastguard stuff I did for a few years but last 2 years have been at an airline so not much use there.

I've heard that depending on whether or not 5 years has gone by since rating elapsed determines how much grief you have to go through. I gather at the least I'll be looking at a few hours flying instruction (to remember actually how to hand fly an aeroplane properly again) and then a slightly reduced version of a flight test?

SEP was valid until October 2007. Looking at logbook I last flew a single engine group A aircraft in OCT 2005.

I've also dug out my Trevor Thom books from doing my PPL in 1996. Are these still considered ok?

Cheers folks!

As much as you like revision with an instructor.

Then a LPC with an examiner.

Did mine recently with only one month to run before it was over 5 years.

Did an hour and then flew the test and passed.

No its the same test to revalidate or renew a class rating however long its been! Its just that it has to go to Gatwick for issue if its expired by more than 5 years. Content here

SRG1157 is the Examiner's Record. The Guidance material is in Standards Doc 14(A)

http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/33/DOC%2014%20V5%20.pdf

4.4

Examiners may only take the administrative action to renew a rating up to 5 years from the date of expiry of the rating. After that period examiners may not make any entry in the applicant’s licence. The appropriate associated paperwork must be sent to PLD for licence endorsement together with the current fee as per the current scheme of charges.
SRG1157 broadly contains the content, although Appendix 1 to Standards Doc 14(A) specifys the content in more detail plus tolerences.

Of course, following the test you then need to include the CAA fee of £84 to renew the Class Rating if it's over 5 years. If it's less than 5 years the examiner can sign your Certificate in your licence with no administrative fee to the CAA.

Current CAA Scheme of Charges here:

No grief either way, just more dosh!
