PPL lessons Malaga

Hi

I am currently working towards PPL in the UK but I am going to be spending some time in Spain and would like to make the most of the clear blue skies and have some lessons whilst there.

I wonder if anyone is familiar with any flying clubs near Malaga/Marbella where I can get an English speaking instructor? No halbo Espanol (well a little)

I have searched google and found Real Aeroclub and No Limits Air - I wonder if anyone has ever used these or has any other suggestions? Couldn't find anything on pprune already only Aerodynamics and can't find much on their website about PPL.

Also, I came across someone mentioning a popular spanish forum but didn't say what it was... does anyone know?

Not in Malaga (b/c the theory is all in Spanish), but in Jerez. Google Fly-in-Spain

I did some flying out in Malaga last year with Aerodynamics from LEAX, they had a number of Cessna 172 N's but all fairly old; they didn't compare to the 172SP & G1000 that i had been flying prior.

The Aerodynamics Office is in Malaga and the flying is done from an airfield 30-40 mins west of Malaga at LEAX. The instructor I had spoke a bit of English, and thought i had a full PPL (at that time) and let me work away; he did the radio work as it was all in Spanish. But if you speak English they have to aswell.

As for No Limits Air, firstly they don't speak English at all!! And their location was very hard to find, the GA terminal at LEMG, it might be where their aircraft are, but I couldnt find anyone that would help. Their office is on a block near the airport, but again unless you're looking very hard you'll past it without even knowing.

I wanted to get the same as yourself, some flying in the cavok conditions and log some interesting airports. I only got LEAX & LEMG, but would have liked to get LXGB, LEJR, GMTT, GMTN. But these would have taken too many hours to get too.

I have since got the PPL licence and maybe going back sometime to do some hour building.

Aerodynamics have English speaking instructors, however, as an organization they are much more geared towards career pilots. When calling, make it clear what you want, I'm sure they'll sort you out. A/c are 172s, not the newest, but well maintained, they have their own maintenance organization.

They fly mainly from LEAX, for the simple reason that LEMG is becoming increasingly difficult - during summer, no VFR flight Thur-Sun and year-round sometimes absurd waiting times at the holding points. My personal record was 45 mins LEAX time from engine start to t/o is typically under 10 mins. Saves money.

LEAX radio is in Spanish (to do with some anal rules of the club that owns the field), but as soon as you switch to LEMG it's in English.

Flying to other Spanish or Portuguese airports is no problem, Morocco is a bit trickier, as you need to leave/re-enter the EU via a customs field, which LEAX is not. Workaround typically is a quick landing in LEJR (or, of course LEMG).

Hi Charlie,
I have a ppl and live near to Malaga. General aviation, down here, is nothing like in the UK as it seems to be purely for the wealthy and elite few.
There is a flying club at LEAX and I called them to enquire about membership and was told that membership only cost 3,000 euro each year. On top of that they sounded unfriendly and indifferent to my enquiry.
I have been down to fly-in-spain at Jerez and found them very proffesional and friendly and would reccomend them, but, Jerez is a two and a half hour drive from Malaga.
Recently I found a guy based at LEAX that advertises flying lessons and aircraft rental. I phoned him and he speaks English and sounds very friendly and helpfull. I have'nt got round to going over there for a flight yet so can't give any reccomendations.
Take a look at www.aeroclub.in and www.airole.es

For your Info the club at LEAX charges a one off fee of €3000 to join and then a monthly fee of €40. Their planes are very low hour PA28's so it nice to fly something that is not held together with chewing gum for a change. The chief instructor speaks very good English , but PPL courses are only run in Spanish and you need to be able to use a bit of Spanish for the field zone as RT is in Spanish. I get by and love the place. I go to Fly in Spain in Jerez for my licence revalidation once every 2 years and fly with Brian Mellor whom I have know for years and is a very good instructor. Weather is nearly always great so its easy to hour build etc.

LEAX

HI, I renew my license recently in Malaga (LEAX) but wouldn´t recomend the place as the radio is mostly in spanish and it´s a bit of a tricky aerodrome, also some of the people flying there are a bit reckless, and they charge 20€ landing fee and 20 more for touch and go´s. The problem is in summer LEMG is closed for vfr thrusday to sunday, Jerez is your best bet but a bit far. I flew with airole, the plane is not now but the guy (Amante) is nice and professional.

JFYI, LEAX is not Malaga (not even particularly near, by car). It's a place called La Axarquia. Been there a couple times and apparently they get all shirty if you do the radio in English, so as far as I'm concerned, they can go self-sodomise.
