Hi,

have some great memories of Highland Aero Club from 89/90. Staying in a B&B in Nairn, studying the Trevor Thom stuff to first solo. A great environment to learn to fly, thus an enjoyable time for me.

Would be interested to know about those associated with the club back then ?.

Does anyone know if the Cessna G-BFLU is still around ?.

Will try and pop in next time i am in Scotland for a short flight over the local area, and try to figure out where the last 20 years have gone !.

Rgds.

Khaosai, G-info has G-BFLU as still extant with Atlantic Flight Training at Coventry.

I did my IMC up there earlier in the year. Don't recall any 152's in the fleet.

In your day Highland Aero Club was the social wing of Inverness Flying Services Ltd. trading as Highland Flight Centre.

G-BFLU (Lulu) was sold to the Atlantic owned competitors Air Alba by Highland Flight Centre when they decided to cease operations in 1993. She lives on with them in Coventry.

Aerobat G-BIHE was similarly sold off with the closure of the centre and was sadly written off in an accident within a couple of years.

G-BHJO was sold off to a private group of HAC members and remains to this day at Inverness.

Hangar Committee:

The volunteer hangar committee absorb the administrative workload of the waiting list, aircraft parking spaces etc. from HIA. The hangar committee is not HAC. It consists of some local aircraft owners, the majority of which happen to be members of HAC. The hangar committee's purpose and effectiveness has been historically undermined by HIA when local aircraft owners approach HIA directly for hangarage and are granted it on presentation of a cheque for the appropriate fee. This makes a mockery of the waiting list. There is at least one aircraft in the hangar whose owner has managed to evade hangarage fees altogether through incompetent bureaucracy.

HFS use the GA hangar centre aisle to overnight their aircraft during cold weather. I don't know if they are paying for hangarage or not.

Jeez Kiltie....

Does it never stop up there!?

This HIA being the owner and therefore ultimate decider, and the committee "managing" the waiting list. Why would HIA bypass the committee and award to new tenants if they took so much work out of HIA's hands?

Is that a full story?
Or was the HIA unhappy with how the list was managed?
Or was there a disagreement on how many places are available in the hangar between a commercial HIA and careful owners?
Or was the committee selective about who was put on the waiting list and who not?

Why do people in-fight so much up there!?
Live and let live? Respect? Honest dealings without favoritism? What happened to all these values?
You guys have got the greatest scenery this side of the Rockies.....

Dear van Horck, in all types of organisations which consist of clubs, owners, operators there can be misunderstandings, errors etc.

The situation at Inverness is unfortunate but not the only example.

Due to complex issues which include legal matters I would not expect anyone involved to add comments on a public forum such as this.

I will provide information relating to the Flying School re locating to its building when that happens.

Scotavia,

That sounds like a more mature and level headed reply.

Merry Christmas!
