PPL Newcastle and Durham Tees Valley
Just wondering if anyone has experienced the PPL training providers at the said airports? I am from the Newcastle area and wish to start my PPL later this year, eventually moving my way up to fATPL.

I can give big thumbs up to Carlisle Flight Training, very friendly reliable instructors and a good community feel to the whole place. Heard that the schools at DTV are ok also. happy flying.

I'll put in a vote for Northumbria School at Ncle. I started last Nov. and have found everyone helpful, the aircraft reliable and the cost very fair. Circuit practice can get expensive due landing fees but like many I went to Carlisle for some of my circuit practice. It is also possible at Ncle to spend a lot of a circuit session orbiting on downwind leg for commercial traffic but on the other hand it is good experince to mix with the big boys and girls.

I'm a PPL student at Northumbria Flying School at NCL, great instructors and the aircraft are well maintained, landing fees have been reduced I think so there are no peak hours, but go to Carlisle to get the most out of circuits IMHO.

St Georges at DTVA are good, friendly, and cheap.
One drawback with NCL is that the landing fee's are expensive and they are on top of any instruction (which i have also heard is pricey).
SGFT is £130 per hour all incl

Meaningless statement isn't it? For example I could have gone to Durham Tee Valley and flown for £130 ph, plus 3 hour round trip drive costing for petrol alone around £15. I don't want to think about the real cost of that journey taking in maintenance , depreciation etc . No thanks. The cost per hour only has meaning for the alternatives if one lives equidistant (ish) between the two choices, otherwise there is no choice.

not meaningless at all...If i fly from EGNV training it's only £130 incl, where as EGNT is £154 + landing fees etc for a PA28. In my opinion thats expensive.
Obviously you have to weigh up where u live etc...any sensible person would (hence the petrol)

Actually 154 inc. landing fee. What I tried to say was unless explained the statement has no value. It turns out you live near DTV, the original poster doesn't. There much cheaper places to learn than the North but we are stuck with it. Maybe I should not post after doing 12 hour shifts back to back, seems to make me grumpy.

The price per hour is not £154 but £142, you're reading the trial lesson prices. Also you're comparing apples and pears. A tomahawk is not the same as a warrior.
£104 PA28 or £89 C152
£20 Instructor
£18 landing fee
£9 touch and go
= £127 Cessna 152 or
£142 PA28
So it's £7 more expensive comparing the 2 seat aircraft. If you're touring after PPL then Newcastle is cheaper.

I got my PPL from St Georges at DTV.
The prices are great and the instructors are dead helpful. They try their best to get you as much flying when you want it, even if its there day off.... I had a couple of them come in a few days before my GHT to keep practicing, even tho they should have been on holiday.
The landing fees at DTV have just went up making it around £130 an hour. The landing fees are only something like £7 now, compared to the £47.50 a go at NCL.
Just to let you know... The aircraft as St Georges arn't the newest, but they still fly well

well you need to change your website B Hendrson. If you read to my previous post i did state PA28...therefore i was actually comparing apples with apples.
I still actually think 142 incl fee is expensive.

Sorry XL319 I misread what you wrote, but the price you quoted for the PA28 was incorrect. I'll look at redoing the website so people don't misread the prices. I can sense that the landing fee issue is going to rumble on with misleading figures like £47.50 from Craig. I don't doubt that you were charged that, but for field based aircraft it is £18.

Another vote for Northumbria Flying School at Newcastle. Great people to deal with and its on your door step. Many flights are 'no go's' on the day, usually when you arrive at the airport, its better to have travelled a few miles rather than travel elsewhere and have to come straight back home.
