probably talking of doing the trip in mid oct for 4-5 days.
Based out in the south west coast of scotland and the places like compton abbas and old sarum are top of my list as is sherburn.
I'd like to spend a day in London so where is the best bet to head to for parking the a/c?

I'm sure there are other airfields that have good connections but I do know that Denham is great for getting in to London.
10 min taxi ride to Gerrards Cross, and then 20-30 mins to Marylebone.
Question is, why would you want to go into London in the first place?

think it would be a bit of a challenge to go far south after only having my PPL for 4 months

If you like smaller, quiet country airfields then try Brimpton. Nothing special there, just a friendly welcome and a cup of tea and a chat a with fellow aviators after a roll down their lovely picturesque 500m ish of grass.
