New look PPRuNe
Thanks to all those who been involved in the "new" PPRuNe upgrade. A whole new look, but still quite familiar - useful indeed for the old codgers like Iself.
Looking forward to the other features as time goes on.... Thanks again, FOR :ok: |
Finally got my cursor back "due to long-running script".
When I'm reading a thread and get to the bottom, on the old Prune, I could just click the "Go" button and be taken back to the sub-forum, say Tech Log. This no longer happens. "Thread Jump" doesn't do anything. I assume the "Go" is now for going to a page number. The only way I can get back to the table of contents of sub-forum I'm in is to scroll all the way back to the top then click the page site link. Jumping to another sub-forum, say "Rumours and News", is no problem, open the dropdown then click the sub-forum. := CPU is being hammered by all the new scripts and ads; gotta make money somehow, eh?! |
I guess so Bloggs. Shame, I liked it the way it woz. |

I’m using an ipad. What’s the best way of getting rid of the ads? |

And the ads are often videos which take up my precious internet allowance here out in the Australian bush. i hate it! |
Keeping an open mind, but how do I get it to use the whole screen instead just the 1st 2/3? Not mobile.

I navigate using the Forum structure list at the top of the page. https://www.pprune.org/images/misc/navbits_start.gif PPRuNe Forums > Misc. Forums > Computer/Internet Issues & Troubleshooting https://www.pprune.org/images/misc/n...allink_ltr.gif > New look PPRuNe OOOH - I was expecting the above to be pasted as pure txt and to have to explain that. I simply copied and pasted it. :-) Click on the one you want to go to. |
Can someone please tell me how to get the pages looking as close to their former style as possible?
Adverts in the middle of the pages are infuriating - is there a way to kill them? |
much preferred the old look as well

WHBM. Yes, that's what I thought it might be for. Doesn't make things easier to read.

Adverts in the middle of the pages are infuriating - is there a way to kill them? I could be mistaken, but to me the overall visual appearance (darker blue bands etc?) is vaguely reminiscent of its appearance many years ago when Danny was in charge, although subsequently tweaked before he moved on. Regarding the ads, the only solution I'm aware of is one that I believe you are unwilling to use. It does get rid of ads in the middle of the pages, and leaves a blank border on the RHS. |
What a retrograde step, I realised advertising is required to fund the site, but when that advertising overwhelms the site it is funding as it does on my iPad, it feels like I am on a shopping channel with a bit of aviation stuff squeezed between to fill the gaps. |
Now getting narrow threads and one third adverts. Horrible! |
Perhaps I'm doing something wrong but I quite like the new layout and I dont notice any more ads on the new site than I had on the old. Using Ubuntu Budgie and Chromium

There is definitely a problem with scripts hanging on some pages. I've just sat for thirty seconds of so watching the page try to load then gave up. A quick look showed that it was a script hanging. There seem to be major issues with embedding things in posts too, with big blank spaces where people have supposedly posted things like links to photos or YouTube videos.
The text sizes seem to be all over the place too. Some devices are showing the pages with overlapping text, making things unreadable, others are either defaulting to a very tiny font size (can be manually fixed by zooming the browser, but a PITA) or an overly large font size, again which can be fixed by zooming the browser out. It looks like there are some bugs in the display side of the new upgrade that need some fine tuning to get a consistent look across all devices/browsers, I think, plus a fix is needed for the stuff that no longer shows up in posts, although does if the post is quoted. Probably teething troubles from the upgrade that will hopefully get sorted as soon as the causes are found and the settings tweaked accordingly. FWIW the forum does seem to look a LOT better on a Linux box than it does on either a Windows PC or an iPad. On the latter it's pretty close to being unusable, doesn't bother me as I don't use one, but I did a quick check with my wife's iPad last night and there are definitely serious issues with overlapping text etc. I've yet to check it with my tablet, which runs LineageOS, but expect it'll be OK on that, as it's essentially Linux underneath it all. |

Advertising rates per 1,000 views of Bulletin Boards have declined, as have the number of views. You don't get a lot of new members any more to replace the old codgers. All the recommendations of flying schools etc for new Wannabees are increasingly on these other media, which the Wannabees themselves have been familiar with since schooldays. |
