Long thread titles?

Thread titles seem to be becoming increasingly verbose.

Is the Twitter model worth considering? Is it possible to limit the length of the thread titles?

Long titles interfere with the use of the forum because the whole title is displayed in the list of threads and at the reading width I prefer some are extending to three or four lines which limits the number of threads displayed on a single page.

Some examples:-

Air Canada Dash 8-300 lost a wheel with sparks at Montreal (video)
Pegasus 737 Runway Excursion At Istanbul Sabiha
Plane crashes near Kazakhstan airport
What Boeing range SHOULD look like?
Boeing and AA settlement?

123456..10123456..20123456..30123456..40123456..50 (50)
Air Canada Dash 8-300 lost a wheel with sparks at Montreal (video)
Pegasus 737 Runway Excursion At Istanbul Sabiha
Plane crashes near Kazakhstan airport
What Boeing range SHOULD look like?
Boeing and AA settlement?

Some alternatives to the above.

1234567 101234567 201234567 301234567 401234567 50 (50)
Air Canada lost wheel
Istanbul 737 off runway
Kazakhstan crash - Almaty
Kazak. crash - Almaty
New Boeing range ??
Boeing settlements

25 or 30 characters would seem to be sufficient? Or 20, I'm sure I can do better than examples above?

In the main forums I read every thread anyway. An essay for a title does nothing to attract me to a particular thread. I want a title mainly to remind me of the topic when I am pretty much already familiar with it.

Thanks for your consideration.

Good point, since careful thought when choosing a thread title often seems to be lacking - especially when posters include "today" in the title, which almost immediately becomes irrelevant.

Your "Air Canada" example is a cracker.

Can this not be re-titled "Thread Titles"?
