Plastic bottles in hand luggage

... anyone know the current regulations regarding the wrapping of bottles in plastic for European airports security LHR/CDG ??

MathFox 4th November 2009 13:27

Empty bottles should be fine.

Or did I misunderstand your question?

rogerk 4th November 2009 13:36

Yeah MathFox you did misunderstand or maybe I did not explain it well.

I am talking about full bottles of shampoo/cosmetics etc that have to be placed in a plastic "bag" ??

As long as each bottle is 100ml or less, and they fit into a regulation plastic bag (about a litre volume) then there is no problem. A half empty 200ml bottle is not allowed for some bizarre reason.

Others will, no doubt, correct me if I'm wrong

Rules for liquids and gels in the EU are essentially the same as in the USA:
  • individual items in containers of 100ml or less
  • all items should fit in a closed, resealable bag
  • of 1 liter capacity
  • the bag will be x-rayed separately from your carry on
Some items (prescription drugs) are exempt.

You can ask the duty free store at an EU airport to seal the items you bought and that should[**] get them past the security check at another EU airport.
[*] I picked up my bag in AMS (they're free there)
[**] never tried it myself.
