FR is very cheap! Even though no beverages provided.
Is there a catch?

CornishFlyer 28th April 2009 12:39

Yeah there are charges for almost everything from checkin to baggage. Don't look at the ticket price expecting it to truly reflect the final price. easyJet and Ryanair are both budget airlines. easyJet don't charge as many extra fees so the price shown is more likely to be close to the final price. British Airways is an all in price so the price you see is likely to be the price you will pay unless you have loads of bags but you do get complimentary food and drink, something you don't get with Ryanair or easyJet :ok:

GroundedSLF 28th April 2009 12:48

Also bear in mind when looking at FR where you are actually heading too.

BCA (Barcelona) airport to city centre is approx 30 mins, while GRO (Girona) is approx 1 hour 40 mins away - so factor in the additional cost of the whole journey, ie your front door to your hotel.

While FR may look cheap, if you end up paying higher parking fees and transfer costs (not to mention the additional time involved) you may be better looking at alternative airlines.

Ryanair to Barça

ONLY CARRY HAND BAGGAGE
CHECK IN ON-LINE
DON'T BUY INSURANCE
DON'T BUY PRIORITY BOARDING
GET TO THE GATE ON TIME
CARRY EARPLUGS AND A GOOD BOOK
DON'T EXPECT (SNIGGER) LUXURY
DO EXPECT AN EFFICIENT CREW TO GET YOU THERE ON TIME
WORK OUT HOW TO GET FROM GIRONA TO BARCELONA (BETTER STILL, STAY IN GIRONA - IT'S MUCH NICER)

You'll be fine !

You forgot one off the start of the list - only pay online with a Visa Electron card...

Not living in the UK I can't get one...... but I did think about that. If anyone knows how a non-UK resident can get one, please e-m me ! We fly often enough with FR (25 flights a year - no cracks about masochists, please) to make it worth it.

Pros and cons.

I recommend Ryanair to Girona or Reus *only* for people travelling alone with hand baggage only. For couples, Easyjet allow you to pool your baggage allowance into a single suitcase of 32kg, which can be a lot cheaper than two 15kg bags with Ryanair.

Don't assume that BA will always be more expensive - particularly if you want the convenience of a small suitcase each rather than one big heavy one, BA can actually work out cheaper - and that's before you include a sandwich and a cup of coffee.
