Aer Lingus..and so called "service

I have just spoken with a senior manager at EI and, believe it or not.......the "Doggy Bags" that are currenly being handed out to Premier passengers (Those up front) are here to stay for all those "up front"

The reasoning behind this is because.............

"not one complaint has been received from any business class passenger"

Passengers obviously get the service they deserve!!!!!

Notso Fantastic 29th Dec 2002 20:52

Excuse me, but this is not a proper Forum for you to use to fire off passenger complaints! This is most certainly not the right Section (Reporting Points). Please take time to read what the forum is about and how to use it before misusing it.

Aer Lingus.."service

"notsoFantastic"

I could not agree with you more...but I could not find which was the correct location and I guess I am waiting to be "moved" to the right section by those who control these things.

And for your information..I am not a Passenger (sitting in the back)

Dubious

Had the dubious pleasure of these on AMS-DUB and DUB-LCY 10 days ago. Since complaining to the crew is not appropriate, can anyone suggest who to write an email to about this? The fare, paid by myself, not a company, was still the same as before, seemingly unaffected by the EI plan to cut business fares by 50%. (If the fare really were cut by 50%, this would be easy to accept.)

Still, it is even harder to understand 6-across seating on the 146s at a C fare, or even a Y fare. None of the middle seats seemed to be occupied in C, though.

Travelled to Dub and back over Christmas and I must say the doggy bags are a joke. The CC handed them out and I must say the look on a lot of peoples faces were "Thanks for the pressie but where the heck is my dinner". The guy beside me got a Tuna wrap (as did I..not bad). He asked the CC member if he could have a chicken one instead (they serve both types.....its all down to luck which one you receive). The CC member went to check and returned to tell him there were no Chicken ones left. For your money you get the following;

Tuna Wrap (£2.90 in Tescos)
Small Mineral Water (£0.60 in Tescos)
Bar of Chocolate (£0.50 in Tescos)
Paper Cup for coffee of tea.
Napkin.

You then get the bar trolley.
1 alcoholic drink (£2 in Pub).

So now you know what you get for your money.

Also I heard the following story. An EI premier pax requested a special meal when he made his booking "Hot meal". When the bods in Catering asked the management what to do they were told to ignore the request.

Finally please don't tear the green doggy bags as these are used again.

AE has the worst food I have ever experienced.

I haven't had a dggy bag yet, but the reqular meals were swill.

Well, this sort of stuff normally moves to SLF fairly quick but

in all fairness Willie Walsh (Businessman of the Year from one Irish newspaper) is making money from this 'Ryanair Lite' concept if you look at their financials. Not bad for the time it took to turn it around.

Interesting to see what the key discriminators are for passengers. As a regular DUB-BHX passenger its an FR-EI fight.

We've talked before in SLF about the EI new 'service'.

You can write to their customer service department at Dublin Airport.

trustno1 30th Dec 2002 17:15

Willie's done a good job. It is alleged that he may be trying to do a Barbara Cassini with EI and organise an MBO. Not a bad way to make a few bob. If he fails I wouldn't be surprised to see him replace Eddy and take over the running of BA.

More

Quite liked the regular meals, though invariably over-cooked. The breakfasts are still there.

On a related subject, I wonder how long it will be before some litigious person who has accepted the always-offered second bottle of booze on Aer Lingus in C (always putting the consumer over the driving limit, except for beer) will decide it is Aer Lingus' fault when they kill somebody on the road. I would suggest the AL people need to think about asking the crew to say "A second bottle, if you are not driving....) The lawyers will have a field day with this at some point.

Momo, as a matter of interest, you say the fare was not reduced?
The ALT station manager in AMS insists that all Biz Class fares are reduced by 50%. Perhaps you bought your seat before the new service was decided upon/publicised? In that case I'd be demanding a refund if I was you!

Incidentally 'trustno1', isn't it rather misleading, if not naiive to suggest that what one gets for the Biz Class fare is just a Tuna Wrap (£2.90 in Tescos).

What one gets is a 'flexible ticket'.

If you are are certain about your travel plans then you don't need that flexibility...so don't buy Biz Class! Its a mugs game.

But I wonder how many people use biz class out of sheer snobbishness! "What ME!? Sit down the back with the bloody plebs! Certainly not!"

trustno1 1st Jan 2003 20:55

Hi Maxalt

I don't think I was naive at all because this discussion is about the inflight service, not the ability to change your booking at short notice. Also in relation to the punters sitting up the front I would suggest that the majority...if not all have someone else paying for the ticket (me included). Having said that you do find over the christmas period that flights are so full that "Exec" might be the only option available if you need to travel at short notice.

Secondly Momo suggests that EI cabin crew always offer a second drink. In my experience this rarely happens on the DUB-LHR run probably due to the short time in the air. As regards being over the limit I don't think you could sue an airline for negligence because the CC gave you a second drink. It comes down to self control. You can choose not to accept it, or if forced upon you, you can then choose not to drink it.

A Happy New Year to All.

nojacketsrequired 1st Jan 2003 21:32

....Not only does business class give you a flexible ticket, you get use of the lounges and priority if your flight is cancelled on alternative flights. So no it's definately not just about a tuna wrap.

As for the cabin crew not offering a second drink how are they to know if you're driving, being picked up,using public transport or perhaps staying at an airport hotel?.

People are responsible for their own actions and should not be pointing the blame at others,a claim such as this would be laughed at and thrown out of any court.

"MAXALT"

and as for the Aer Lingus C class ticket being reduced by 50%, according the the Aer Lingus STN manager at AMS (Mr S O'M)....go and buy one now...and when you do, please come back and tell me that it was reduced by 50%..becaue I can tell you it has not!!!

Momo 2nd Jan 2003 08:00

Litigation

The litigation point I raised is not about whether people are responsible for their own actions. In many US states, bars have learned to their cost that they become responsible for people who drive over the limit. It can only be a matter of time before some lawyer decides to test this in Ireland. Ireland is, I believe, the only country in the EU where injury claims can be decided by jury, as in the US. In the US, the people serving the drinks have been found to be responsible where (1) a guy decided to dance on a bar counter, fell off, and broke his leg and (2) a 7-11 sold a guy a six-pack which he drank in his car on the way home, then shot his wife on arrival. The "people being responsible for their own actions" bit does not seem to extend to lawyers.

My fare via AMS was probably not reduced by 50% because (1) I actually booked GVA-DUB, via AMS and LCY and (2) I was officially on KLM from AMS to DUB (on an EI aircraft) and on Swiss from DUB to LCY (on EI aircraft). I will have to watch out for the opportunity to split the trip in two the next time. I suspect that booking C with certain legs on EI as part of another ticket will not qualify for the 50% as other airlines may have to honor the ticket. And as someone pointed out as a possibility, I was in C because no Y seats were available.

Hello Momo,

Im sorry to say that your agruement about the second drink on EI flights is probably one of the most pathetic arguements Iv ever seen in these forums. And comparing the Irish to the Americans, especially regarding our alcohol culture is also a blind shot.
If your old and big enough to fly in an airplane on your own then your old and big enough to accept or decline that extra drink. And perhaps that arguement should be said about most full service airlines and not just single out EI!

Now Aer Lingus misses paying Staf wages.....

I guess it all started with the doggy bag issue, but now Aer Lingus failed to pay staff wages on December 23rd, which should have been paid into the bank accounts of staff by direct transfer of funds between the companies bank and those of staff.

The company is saying it is the fault of the Bank and naturally the Bank are saying the opposite. Staff were eventually paid on the 30th December. Thats a fine "Happy Christmas" to folk who rely on ATM cards to withdraw wages each week.

So far, not a single apology from management to the staff affected

I guess Willie was not left short!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
