So, we have New York Kennedy, JFK, Washington Dulles, IAD, Warsaw Chopin , WAW, etc. so how about LHR to LER , London Elizabeth ?

London and Heathrow are famous or infamous enough not to need advertising under an alternate brand. Furthermore, it's best to name something new - it's much more difficult to rebadge something old under a new name and get people to switch names.

Airports are inevitably quite grim and functional when you pass through them on a regular basis. When debate turns (eventually) to R3 or T6, or the airport has an operational meltdown, do you really want the Queen's name drawn through the muck raking and recriminations ?
Regardless of that, Leinster airport in Australia already uses the LER IATA code

Perhaps something more cheerful and uplifting ? Prince Albert, the husband of Queen Victoria, was memorialised in the Royal Albert Hall.... a place most Brits associate with something fun and enjoyable

Wasn't T2 (new) so named because of the previous Queens Buildings that were atop and astride the old T2 ? Whatever, it's nice that QEII has a mention. In other news, in Paris, Metro station 'Georges V' along the Champs Elysees was renamed Elizabeth II during the day of the funeral, which I thought was a nice touch from the RATP. Chapeau!

The Queens Building (singular) was one of Gibberd's original CTA structures situated between the Europa Building (later T2) and the space where T1 would later be built.

It was indeed named after HM, who opened it in 1955.

Airports are such ghastly places these days, I am sure that re-naming or naming one after Her Majesty would have been the last thing she would have wanted. Please think of something better.

She has enough named after her. Including an entire terminal at Heathrow and a new rail line to the airport. Time to move on.

I thought that renaming CrossRail [2 syllables and states what it is] to The Elizabeth Line [6 syllables of no relevance] was stupid and very 'needy'. HMQ did her bit as she always did but, as has been said, there was a frenzy of using her name in the last couple of years.

Heathrow is 2 syllables and is known far and wide on the globe. It is synonymous with London Airport and anyone wanting to travel to/via the UK will know it is the main gateway.

When the main Johannesburg airport was renamed O.R. Tambo International, they did not change the IATA 'JNB' but the ICAO did change. Beijing airport is still PEK.

Seems from Google that someone has already mentioned about a new London Airport name concept - LQE
London Queen Elizabeth II International Airport

or London QE2 Airport has a nicer ring about it.

I think she deserves all the recognition - HM was formative in LHR History, by opening all the original CTA buildings and the Tower - none of which survived building progress.
We have the new Queens Terminal (T2) so why not...

Symbolic perhaps, but useful, no. Does anyone fly to "John Lennon Airport" or "George Best Airport"? No they fly to Liverpool and Belfast City. To rebadge LHR would simply result in more corporate expense for very little gain. Would anyone choose "Queen Elizabeth II Airport" over Gatwick because of some kind of allegiance to our former Monarch, albeit that she was globally known and respected? No, they'd fly to the most convenient and / or cheapest from their perspective.

When commercial aviation was novel airports got named after famous people such as JFK, but these days people are more interested in where they fly to, not what what the place is named, that's why places like Elmdon, Woolsington, Yeadon, Ringway etc have been consigned to the memories of old farts like us.

Oh shame ! I think QE2 airport is very snazzy lol

Oddly people DO occasionally use the official name for some airports - CGD, & JFK come to mind - but generally it's because it's shorter/easier to say/easier to spell than the other name.

In those two instances, where the city in question has two or more major airports, it avoids confusion.
