Flight no longer bookable but not cancelled
 

Flying with SAS on a non-stop flight from a ski resort airport in Sweden to London. Flights on all dates in winter except for UK half term have been unable to be booked since 2 weeks ago. If it was fully booked, airline would put on another flight... so much more likely it is unofficially cancelled. The flight is not however officially cancelled, so airline gets to keep my money and not have to worry for now about offering alternate transport (which will be very difficult to source over half term). Yes, I have all kinds of other soon-to-be non-refundable things like hotel accommodation contingent on this

Yes, spoken to airline who swear blind flight is not cancelled. Is there anything I can do, apart from waiting for somebody to be honest ?

Did the airline say this? I don't work for SAS, but my current airline and the previous one flies seasonal flights that once fully booked, that's it. We don't put on more flights just because the previous one is sold out - we don't have the equipment or the crew for that.

If the airline said they'd put on more flights, then I might get concerned as to why they've not done so. If they didn't say that, then I'd think it's going to be a very cozy flight!

Travel insurance to cover flight cancellations and non refundable hotel bookings would be worthwhile.

I think you’ll find the flights will go ahead as planned as it is conceivable that the flight are full especially as you mentioned it’s half-term.
a suitable travel insurance policy would pay out if the flights did get cancelled. If the airlines says flights are not cancelled then I’d not cancel any accommodation etc.

It's the flights on dates which are not UK half term that are no longer available to book.

I am very dubious that late winter ski flights would be full on all weekends before and after half term... but during UK half term, there is space on the flights in both directions. Seems more likely that somebody at the airline wants to cancel flights with low booking numbers... but doesn't want to hand back the money for those cancelled flights

I'm recalling a similar situation that I experienced a year or so back, not with SAS but with another airline, even at the time of booking I suspected all along that it would become cancelled, I sputted that the flight, and other flights, had become as if fully booked, there was a delay of a number of days or longer before the airline notified me which I put down to too many cancellations, given these times we find ourselves in, and not enough staff to deal with notifiying passengers, rerouting via other airports, processing refunds etc. all of which I can imagine to be somewhat time consuming.
