Animal evacuation from Kabul
 

Approximately 70 dogs ( and cats? ) were evacuated from Afghanistan. This was organised by an ex Royal Marine called Pen Farthing who ran an animal rescue centre in Afghanistan.
We are told that the animals were evacuated in a privately chartered aircraft.
Does anyone know what kind of plane? Was it a freighter ? Or combi, or neither ?

Haven't seen it mentioned anywhere, but if anyone can work out the airline or other info of the logo on the seat from this twitter pic, allegedly being taken on the flight to UK

One report said it went via Tashkent while another said Muscat.

Would have made much more sense to have left the bloody dogs and cats behind and filled it with people who risk being slaughtered by the Taliban for working with the Brits, quite ridiculous.

A report I heard said that the animals (some 200 apparently) were loaded into the hold in their crates and despite there was a full compliment of seats left empty, nobody was able to make use of them.

In conversation with Mrs G, she cannot believe that cats and dogs go before people. I quite agree, but I've cautioned her against saying so too loudly as she is (unfortunately) in the vocal minority in the UK. BTW, I heard that the animals in question have already been found new homes in the UK, presumably just as soon as they come out of whatever quarantine is required (is Afghanistan on the red list :}).

I find it a pity that you didn't do just a little research before posting. The animals were transported in the hold and not in the passenger cabin.

I imagine that dealing with all those animals required considerable time by Brits on the ground in Kabul.
Kabul is not a safe place... and putting Brits at significant risk to save some dogs seems rather strange.

There are not endangered species... and there are plenty of abandoned cats and dogs which end up being put down in the UK each year. Those who wish to rescue animals can visit Battersea or the RSPCA who will likely be very happy to talk... and nobody is put at risk from bombs exploding

As far as I remember the aft cargo hold of the 735 is not approved for transportation of live animals as it's not ventillated/heated and the forward hold is afwully small for 200 animals.

I love most animals, and have a soft spot for dogs, but like others I'm a bit perplexed that it was possible to get the dogs out when people were left behind that potentially could've evacuated with this flight as far as Tajikistan.

While the logo does indeed look like Safe Air's, the photo in post #2 clearly wasn't taken on board that 727F.
