Intoxicated passengers stuck in Manitoba

This occurred in March. Report is from NAVCAN daily report. Well done AC and WS.

UPDATE; FAA Report: A Thomas Cook Airlines Airbus A330-200 (G-MLJL/ TCX2924) from Manchester, UK (EGCC) to Las Vegas, NV (KLAS) diverted to Winnipeg, MB (CYWG) due to 5 intoxicated British citizens onboard. The aircraft landed without further incident. All 5 passengers were removed from the aircraft by Canadian border officials and were held in custody until they were no longer under the influence. Both Air Canada and WestJet refused to carry them to another destination.
Pity, it doesn’t appear they were charged by the police. But the punishment certainly fits the crime.

charming - often a vegas attracts this -

Flown to Vegas twice. First flight had a couple of stag do's on board. Very rowdy. One or two individuals blind drunk. Staff closed the booze carts, but one guy went forward trying to find the posh seats drinks - repeatedly sent back. Another group had brought booze on board and were sharing it out. The wanderer headed back to the loo's for a quick smoke apparently. He was eventually firmly seated and told that if he moved again we would be stopping to kick him off... He did make it back to the loo's to throw up... We were behind them when they left the plane and tried to apologise to the purser - he was having none of that.... Crew said it was the worst flight they have ever crewed...

Second time was a little rowdy - but not on the level of our first....

I wonder why? Sympathise, maybe, but unless you were somehow with or responsible for the drunken louts, what were you apologising for?

Punishment fit for the crime would be to be landed with the cost of the diversion. fuel, landing fees etc.

I suppose that would be a civil matter, rather than criminal. TUI would be within their rights to seek quantifiable costs.

Perhaps Bott & Co should file a civil suit on behalf of all the other passengers seeking compensation from the drunks for their delay in arrival. The EC has fixed €600 per pax as being a reasonable amount when it is the airline’s fault. That would send a very strong message.

TO be clear..... I was behind the chap. I heard the chap try to apologise.

The crew had my sympathy and respect - but not my apologies.

I'm sure most of us had worked out that's what you meant. :O

Yes, well, it's obvious now; I just didn't spot the ambiguity first time round!

Phew! MANITOBA........................

They should put that on the pre-flight video "anyone causes trouble it's Manitoba.." I'd probably wind duct tape round my mouth even if I was stone cold sober..... just in case........

DaveReidUK 25th May 2018 17:18

Yes, I'd say the miscreants have now paid their dues - being stranded in Winnipeg is punishment enough. :O
