EVA Air. So good they named it twice?
9 should read "Azul"

These surveys all need to be read with a large dose of salt.

Next week's from whomever will be a lot different

Why aren't BA in this list?

Is that one of these rhetorical questions? ;)

It was a top 10 list......

How come Jet2 sits in with 9 longhaul operators?

The parameters for LH and SH are totally different.

If you have been able to discern from the linked article what the parameters actually are, and how they have been aggregated, could you share that with the rest of us, please?

Southwest aren't long haul either...

I am guessing there was nothing more to this poll than Tripadvisor looked for the airlines with the most 5 star ratings and then combined them in to this list.

Piltdown Man 20th Apr 2018 07:44

It is an interesting selection of airlines, long haul, short haul, loco and so on. But being Trip Advisor they also do not have to reveal their source of data, probably like every other ratings institution and I’m sure the basic data is not open to public scrutiny. So on one hand, well done SW & Jet2 but on the other, how did you get on the list?

Pretty sure based onTA ratings. They get hundreds a day

These sorts of things are laughable really...

What floats the boat of one person is completely irrelevant to someone else.

Complete pointless exercise.

PAXboy 24th Apr 2018 20:56

For Tripadvisor the contents of the list is irrelevant. They don't care if the carriers are short, long or inter-galactic, just as long as they get free publicity.

For the newspapers, it's a story on a plate that they did not have to work for - 100% free.

Much like a top 50 restaurant list is completely pointless, because 'some people' will like tasteless frozen crap, dirty silverware and poor service. Right?

I realise you were attempting to be sarcastic, but you are actually right, even if you don't see it.

Some peoples idea of a great place is a greasy spoon cafe others a 3 star Michelin star restaurant.

PAXboy 25th Apr 2018 14:59

Exactly! It is often said in here that what you consider 'good service' by an airline ha\s so many cultural and personal factors that it cannot be written down for a whole plane load! I only use restaurants that I have been reccomended by a friend, or where I can stick my nose inside and see the place - eventhough there are lots of things you will not know until it's too late.

Which is probably (but not always) more about delivering on expectations for the price point than general preferences...

There's a valid question around appropriate KPIs for comparing airlines from a passenger perspective. RouteHappy is certainly interesting as it drills down to the product for any given route, but doesn't provide the bigger picture of 'who is the best airline' overall. Arguably route specific comparison is more important anyway, unless you are trying to choose a loyalty programme?

Heathrow Harry 27th May 2018 15:28

good points - but I've always found the "Directivity" of the results quite important

15 years ago Turkish were a bit of a joke - now they get good reviews

20 years ago most trans-atlantic US airlines were top rated - now........................

rationalfunctions 7th Jun 2018 09:57

Very true.

Not sure how I feel about the latest 'best and worst airlines and airports' ranking https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...rports-of-2018 - something seems a little off!
