IATPA

I got an email today from IATPA (International Air Transport Passenger Association) thanking me for supporting it. I have never heard of this organisation, let alone supported it.

It reeks of scam; a website full of spelling errors, a US-based HQ, a button for "unsubscribe" that simply takes you to a page where you can only sign up with no unsubscribe option available. The name has been carefully chosen to sound like IATA; intended to fool the unwary?

It looks very like an organisation set up as a "non-profit" for the enrichment and aggrandisement of its founder, just like so many "churches" in the USA. He even looks like one of those orange-tanned and made-up "Church Leaders" with a private jet paid for by the fleeced sheep in his flock. But perhaps I'm being too cynical and/or unfair.

Does anyone know anything about IATPA? Should I worry that they seem to have my email address? (No secret there; it's on our company website, necessarily.)

If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck . . . . .

I doubt it's a scam - well-meaning but amateurish would probably be a better description.

It's hard to discern what useful purpose if serves - a quick browse of the website doesn't seem to bring up any content more recent than about a year old.

Sounds like a lot of Airlines I can think of Dave

I didn't know they were still going?! In the days of the big govt cartels they had some sort of purpose but the changes in regulations has rendered them has-beens. Of course, if they thought about and moved into the 21st Century ...

You're thinking of IATA ...............................

PAXboy 7th Jul 2017 15:25

No, I think I am recalling IAPA - that took the passengers side?

PAXboy is right. I remember this organisation from the 70s & 80s. I too am surprised to see they are still going!

The last time I heard of them was about 1989/90.
