Who knows what went on but one thing is certainly evident from the footage , the gentleman in the black shirt has a pretty sweet left jab.

Hard to believe this was on the ground at Tokyo and they didn't remove the guy in red before taking off (or did they, the narrator says he "exited" of his own will).

More details would be nice.

The video clip sub-titles say the man in red was arrested.

You got to it before me, totally agree with you on the left jab ! Does make you think though how some people seem to react these days in these situations, no matter what had gone on before, if indeed anything. This seems to be to more of a recent thing as I do not recall in my years of travelling this sort of thing happening, or being reported as much as it appears to be today. Perhaps some older or retired CC could comment on if indeed did occur back in 60,70,80,90 and I was just lucky not to be on a flight when it happened.
My own only recollection of a passenger incident involved a pretty blonde American girl on a flight from Hong Kong to San Francisco who had a reaction to some tablets she was taking with alcohol. She started running around our 747 stripping off, chased by CC and a blanket - they were not quick enough, and by the time she came through Business class on second circuit she was down to the buff ! Better than the film as I recall, but it was quite a while ago.

Have these type of events become more frequent in aviation, or does it just seem that way because of the exposure it now gets through Iphones etc.?

More frequent? Some events yes, some events perhaps not so much. Regardless, way, way more people are now flying than ever before.

Besides the fact that everyone has an iphone, in the olden days air travel was only for the happy few.
Now, everyone with no composure or reputation at all to keep up, can buy a ticket for $9.99.

After an incident on SWISS ZUR-BKK on 27th April, pax were offered cards by the CC as they left the aircraft, if they needed counselling after an in-flight event. During the flight, the CC had initially called for medical practitioners as a man's behaviour was akin to a fit and people were re-seated to give him room. By the time we reached BKK, he had been trussed up and they had lined-up a police welcome party.
Sorry no video to share with you - he was kicking off for most of the flight.
It's one way to get extra leg-room, but who flew him back home, assuming he's not still in jail?
I do feel sorry for the CC and any unsuspecting medic that get involved in these situations.

Sorry for being a pedant but that's 3.8 billion passenger journeys. A GVA-MUC-JFK-FRA-GVA trip would be 4 passenger journeys.

More likely 1-3 billion passengers, still a big number.

Yes, IATA don't help matters by talking about "3.8 billion air travelers" in their press releases. :O

Their economics unit is actually very good, their public relations people don't have a clue!
