Changing flighta at Bangkok - Don Mueang

Hello, anyone know about the above. I have been to Bangkok
many times, but never changed flights at DMK. I arrive at 9.30 am., and there are plenty of onward flights ie one every hour
or so from 10.45 onwards. Should I allow 2, 3, 4 hours ?
Advice much appreciated, John

edit.. just looked at Google flight search for another flight and it informed me
that I fly to Paris 12th April. That flight was booked direct
with the Airline, email&phone. How on Earth do they know that ?
Things are getting scary !

Domestic to international or vv ? Same airline with a through ticket or seperate check in required ?

Can't advise exactly but when we went through DMK earlier this year the place was a total zoo with very long queues for security and passport control. We had to push and shove or would have remained at the back of the line all day. We flew from Lampang with Nok and on to Singapore with either Air Asia or Lion, cant remember.

Agree with jerryh99 - immigration is a mess. I've also waited over an hour on bags in DMK - which is about the same as the flight time from Chiang Mai...

Another big assumption is that your inbound flight is on time... Hope for the best, but plan for the worst - I'd book the 3 hour connection and try and get on an earlier flight if things pan out better than expected.

Should have said:- arriving from KL departing for Chiang Mai.
Will have to clear immigration & recheck baggage.

Allow plenty of time then. Check in alone is a mess. I now avoid VTBD at all costs.

A few years ago I saw a an artists impression of how the new terminal 2 would look - including a giant scale model Stuka hanging from the ceiling! Didn't spot it on our visit so sadly looks like it didn't make it into the final plans.

Excuse if you know this already......

If you will have one ticket (and a reservations is NOT the same thing as a ticket) then interline rules will apply and if you miss the connection the airlines sold you the delivering carrier is responsible for finding you and alternate onward flight.

If you buy two separate tickets all bets are off. Each ticket is a separate contract and if you fail to turn up on time for the second contract the airline is within its' rights to refuse you carriage and force you to buy a new ticket. In practice they MIGHT simply charge you a change fee but money will almost certainly be involved.

There are a few occasions when two tickets can have the same benefits as just one but they are pretty rare.

There's a streamlined procedure for passengers for Chiangmai and selected other destinations.
It's here: http://www.suvarnabhumiairport.com/en/224-international-to-domestic-with-a-boarding-pass

#7 - pity they didn't include the Stuka... could have been used to bomb the place nice and flat, which would have been a pretty good start. ... Sorry that's not fair, a few years ago they were gonna close down Don Mueang and changed their minds and moved all the budget airlines there.... But for that decision the zoo that is DMK would now be sitting in BKK. Imagine that happy scene...

#9 - the link is for BKK, not DMK.

In it's defense. It did get trashed by the floods in 2011.
