Another United Delay - "Gas Problem"
Just experienced my third delay due to a mechanical problem in two weeks. This time the pilot said departure was delayed for an hour because of a "gas problem". Any idea what this means?

It was probably a refuelling problem, a fuel leak or something to do with the fuel indicating side of things on the aircraft.
I know that gas is the American term for petrol but it might be that the pilot just uses the word as a generic term for all fuels. |
'Gas Problems' could be several things, even a delay in getting a bowser.
The two most likely are weight and balance, where there can be more fuel in one part of the aircraft than another or the bowser figures do not equate to the aircraft's gauges. In the latter case, engineers may have had to manually check the content of the tanks using magnetic dip sticks Airbus Fuel Accuracy - Documents |
I'm not sure if it has any bearing, but in the interest of completeness it was a Boeing Dreamliner...
