Shades of Tokyo capsule hotels... solely from the passenger's side not a bad idea.

I could well imagine the numbers of ruthless budget airline management poring over the fine details to see if they can cram in an additional 20% in pax numbers via this arrangement. Shades of Ryanair suggesting stand-up pax positioning.

I do remember many years ago a proposal to put windows under the nose of the B747 (bomb-aimer style) and have seats down there so you could see where you were going ! I believe the idea came from JAL. I still think it would be a great place to sit !

I don't think it's such a mad idea. The 16g thing is not such a challenge when the weight is spread over a large area, again the biggest challenge might be the evacuation within the time limit, given that three quarters of the of the occupants will either be asleep, or trying to join the mile high club.

Think of the scene from "The Fifth Element" of the flight from earth to Flossten Paradise. All the passengers ended up in sleeping pods (& anaesthetised) for flight.

I'd be quite happy to use a reasonably sized pod coming back from the US or Canada, and if the Company downgrades our travel policy again, out to the Far East as well. All the pod needs to be is the same cross section of most carry on bags by about seven foot long. May be a bit of a challenge to hoover out, but hey ho, I'm sure that someone will come up with a disposable liner or a compulsory ten quid romper suit, whether or not it comes with a harp emblem or not, I leave to your imagination.

They could use cylindrical pods, stored in the cargo hold, loaded through folding doors in the floor.

These could be delivered to the airport of your choice using redundant JDAM units thereby saving the cost of a landing fees.
