EASY OR RATHER NOT SO EASY JET

First time booking, just done OnLine Check In and noticed that one of our party has a New Passport since original booking
OK need to change API details - AAGH!!! HOW yes its mentioned but when I go to the relevant page I can't find the required Tab/Button
OK phone them - Ring RRRRRRRING no answer
Email - yes we may get round to answer you within 7-10 days!!!!
By which time we are getting kinda close to Departure

Has anyone got any suggestions (not cancel & go Jet2 - maybe's I should have done them first!!!)

Cheers

Try using a different browser. Squeezie doesn't like Safari, for example.

Make sure the person concerned carries both their old and new passports.

You have several options. The easiest would be to check in at the airport and get the agent to put in the details there and then. Or check in online, keep the details as they are and then change them on arrival at the airport as mentioned on their website. You can contact them via the social media outlets which are usually quite quick to reply. Or as mentioned try another browser as the squeezy "same legroom as British Airways" Jet website may work better on other browsers. You could also try the app, I know you can add API data but not 100% sure if you can amend the data.

they may never notice...............

Heathrow Harry - knowing my luck they would!!!

Anyway - after 44 minutes on HOLD, got through and apparently one can only enter API info online Prior to checking in!!! Afterwards updates/changes can only be made by Phone or at Check-inq despite their HELP line saying that it can be done online

Thanks to others for suggestions

How much do they charge for changing details I wonder?

Easy were featured in the BBC's Rip Off Britain yesterday. Poor guy only put his initial instead of his full name on the printed boarding card and was denied boarding at BFS.

Good question. AFAIK the APIS data is transmitted to the receiving border control. But does the airline cross-check the information at the gate? That would be time consuming.

I wonder if the receiving border control agents would even notice.

Oh, as far as Rip-Off U2. Remember they sell VAT/Excise/Duty free goods on flights to/from non-EU at exactly the same price as non-exempt goods on intra-EU flights. A £4 tin of crap lager is 90% rip off.

HeartyMeatballs 26th Sep 2015 09:39

Typos are changed free of charge, name changes aren't.

Interestingly Swiss airline Edelweiss charge more for wine than easyJet (their beer is slightly cheaper than U2) despite all of their flights originating in or ending in Switzerland meaning they can technically serve duty free on all flights. U2 are often unable to do so as the aircraft and its bar will operate a non Swiss flight either before or after the Swiss rotation and therefore duty free wouldn't apply anyway. So who's the bigger ripoff artist?

Similarly if crew want to buy duty free in the UK airports when operating a GVA they will be refused if they're going somewhere else beforehand. I've had it happen to me before and had to wait until I was operating just a GVA.

Interestingly I have looked at Ryanair and Wizzair and can find no Swiss only pricing so therefore they're doing the same thing: ie providing a product at a price that people are willing to pay for.

ExXB 26th Sep 2015 11:11

Swiss and Edelweiss do not have any flights where the goods are not exempt from VAT/Excise/Tax. (LX does have domestic flights but there are no on board sales). Not surprising that they only have one price. My experience with both is that their on board prices are less than non-exempt high street prices here. Where, outside London, would you pay £4 in the UK for a small beer?

Have a look at your receipt next time you fly U2. Do you see the VAT number? No you don't, because it ain't there. So no VAT going to UK/Swiss governments (depending if it's U2 or DZ). Excise and duty dealt with as an accounting entry, (they can show export based on sales receipts).

Ryanair doesn't fly to CH. However I imagine they and Wizzair apply this same rip-off on their non-EU flights It really isn't better just because they all do it. I've not flown either so cannot comment further on these two.

A price what the passenger is willing to pay is still a rip-off where the passenger has no choice and, in fact, is prohibited by law from buying (alcohol) elsewhere.

Yes, I know, just don't buy it. That still doesn't make their non-EU pricing fair and reasonable. It is a rip-off.

HeartyMeatballs 26th Sep 2015 11:28

£4 for a small beer is steep but £4/£5 for a medium glass of wine is pretty pretty standard. £5.50 for a double branded spirits with a branded mixer is standard and actually pretty cheap compared to where I usually drink.

I don't understand. If Edelweiss and Swiss are operating to and from Switzerland why don't the same rules apply to easyJet Switzerland or easyJet? If they're operating international flights ex Switzerland then how are they any different? Why are they not tax/vat exempt when EZY/EZS are?

Saying as people are quick to easyBash on here - I have checked and Jet2/Monarch/Aer Lingus/Germanwings/Icelandair/Norwegian and Thomson. I see no mention of any Swiss specific pricing. So it's a systemic issue and not an easyJet only issue.

easyflyer83 26th Sep 2015 11:53

I wouldn't get your boxers in a twist over a can of beer. Besides, airlines have a much larger profit margin on coffee and soft drinks. Every airline I've flown for or with don't have a separate pricing structure for non-EU flights. Specifically easyJet, the percentage of non-EU flights compared to other mentioned carriers are minimal. EasySwiss aside, non-EU is the exception rather than the rule.

ExXB 26th Sep 2015 12:26

Oh, so they are only ripping off a few of us. Well that's OK then.

While I appreciate you feel the need to defend your employer, it wouldn't be difficult to knock off the 20% VAT for on-board sales. You don't even have to print a new menu, just mention that on non-EU flights the VAT will be removed. Do you think anybody is going to object?

Oh, and why is it the DZs pricing is exactly the same as U2's? All of their flights are exempt, aren't they?

In fairness are the products sold by EZY, EZY's to sell? They just resell GateGourmet (or whoever supplies them) do they not? Does anyone know who actually sets the pricing? I'm fairly sure the receipts are Gate's receipts just with the U2 flight details printed on. Obviously U2 take a cut, but who is guilty of this supposed 'ripping off'. If they're not their products then it's not for them to sell at a reduced rate, surely?

I for one don't mean to come over on the defensive, but I like a fair and balanced debate. Some people (naming no names) clearly have an axe to grind with U2 in particular.

easyflyer83 26th Sep 2015 16:53

I don't work for EZY mate.

strawberry Ribena 29th Sep 2015 16:58

i wouldn't worry too much. nobody pays attention to passport details.

as long as your name matches and your passport is valid then the rest isnt checked.
